"Xbox 1080" handheld Xbox 360 console prototype

"Xbox 1080" handheld Xbox 360 console prototype

Here’s the “Xbox 1080″ prototype from Carl Archambeault, an impossibly portable console with a slide-out LCD screen. Where do the optical discs go? Who knows? And what’s the battery life? Let’s say 100 hours!

The project is an attempt “to design a hand held gaming device that would combine the gaming power of the Xbox 360 and the music and video power of the Microsoft Zune.” That’s an idea that Microsoft itself is apparently working on, but something like this prototype here would be mighty nice to add to your portable gaming collection, no?

As the name goes, this version of Xbox game console sure is more advanced than the Xbox handheld we saw before or Xbox 360 we currently use – three times advanced! Made by a certain Carl Archambeault, this Xbox design looks pretty “cute” and game and hence, I guess, we would also see the feminine population craving for this item, what do you say? The gadget is intended to sport a Xbox LCD display that slides into the compact machine, making the gadget something to die for.

All in all, this product looks like a mixture of Sony’s the Xbox 360 and Microsoft’s Zune. The creator of this design has made a prototype of such a device, which, I guess is not functional, because, if, by any chance, it renders to be functional, then I would not be wasting a single second more writing for this stuff, and trying my luck bidding for this one of a kind multimedia gadget. Other futuristic design that is worth missing out is the Xbox 720 console, which foresees Xbox in a very new avatar and hopefully, some more features.

Joystiq Spends Time OnLive

Joystiq Spends Time OnLive
Published by: wes213 on Saturday, June 06, 2009
Tagged: Gaming,

If your like me at all you might have been wondering ware the all new and flashy OnLive system was this year at E3 and why they seem to be very quit about this service all together, here with a few answers for is the team over at joystiq.com.

Even though OnLive said it wouldn't be at E3, we still got to give the streaming game service a shot. It wasn't actually on the show floor, but inside an actual home ... as in luxury downtown condo that no one actually lives in. OnLive rented the place for the experience, and the service was running over a normal at-home internet connection.

As proof, it showed off an actual Time Warner cable modem to prove that the experience was real, complete with blinking lights and bundles of cables. Update: An OnLive executive told us that speeds through the modem were peaking at four to five megabits per second, which is near the top limit of a low end cable modem usage tier, although average speeds were two to three. They were able to dial up or down what the OnLive service was using on the fly, although the cable internet connection maxed out at six mbps, which again is standard for a low-end connection.

The service worked well enough to make us suspicious that OnLive actually moved one of its servers into the back bedroom. However, we were assured that it was running off a bank of machines in Santa Clara, almost 350 miles away. We played a shooter, a racing game, and a flight simulator, and a first-person action game (we weren't allowed to disclose titles) on a big LCD television in the living room through its microconsole, and on a MacBook Pro running the service via the browser plugin. We used a prototype of their Xbox-style controller on the TV, and tried out both a mouse and keyboard combination, and a Logitech game controller on the laptop.

Of the four games, the shooter was the only one that felt slightly sluggish, and it was also the only active multiplayer game out of the bunch, pairing us with other OnLive users scattered around the country. It also was a title we weren't that familiar with, and since it's E3 week we can't just go home and try it out and see if it was the service, or if that's just how that game plays. Everything else performed very well: several of the games were extremely reliant on timing, and we were able to nail jumps and avoid obstacles fairly easily after a couple of tries.

What was very slick was the interface: multiple streaming video windows of other players playing at that moment form a tile background, and they flip and transition as you move from location to location within the GUI interface. Most of these videos are canned, since they only have a hundred or so beta users right now, but they'll eventually be all live streams. In the Arena, you can scroll across all of these and click on any of them to spectate in full-screen mode, and in some cases join their game instantly.

When you launch a game from your collection, you'll see a brief video of that title while a progress bar fills up at the bottom of the screen, but at longest that load took us no more than 10 seconds. Once you're in the game, it's just like a normal game experience. A press of the center OnLive button, or a keystroke when you're playing with a keyboard, will take you back to the OnLive "home" space, for lack of a better word. You can also press the right thumbstick down or hit alt-b on a keyboard for the 15-second "Brag Clips" we talked about earlier, which are transparently saved out into the OnLive ether instantly.

In summary, the thing works. Games load and play fairly quickly, we didn't have any hardware on-hand other than the microconsole and their controller, and no physical media like game discs or files. Although the speeds indicate almost full usage of a low-end cable modem connection, which are below normal DSL levels, so you're probably going to use cable if you plan on getting on this service. OnLive is in the process of rolling out a closed beta, and we're hoping to be a part of the open beta later this summer. Stay tuned. Or live. Either way.

Prototype Now Set For June 12 2009

If this games release gets pushed back one more time i swear here and now that i will not cover one more article on it, with all the trailers screen shots and release dates this game has had so far you would think the plan was to drop a 3 disk set all at once but it seems they just cant stop finding things to add.

Prototype exec producer Tim Bennison’s told VG247 that the game’s slip to 2009 means gamers will get the project’s original vision.

“Prototype came with a really big original vision and scope,” he said. “That meant we really needed a decent amount of time to pack this game with content, missions, powers, enemies, and polish that it deserved, so the move to 2009 has helped make that a reality.”

Bennison said that Prototype faces stiff competition this summer, but that his now polished title will stand out against the crowd.

“There are many great games coming out in 2009, in both the action categories and the open world categories, though we’ve also got competition from Hollywood this summer as well,” he added.

“As long as we do our job correctly by showing the game to the public as much as possible, and highlighting all of the cool unique powers, upgrades, and challenges, then we’ll feel great about standing-out amongst the competition this summer.”

It releases for PS3 and 360 on June 12.

Eidos Interactive, Inc. and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announce that Battlestations: Pacific is set to release on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Games for Windows LIVE in North America on May 12, 2009. Battlestations: Pacific is rated "T" for Teen.

Battlestations: Pacific takes the critically-acclaimed action/strategy gameplay of Battlestations: Midway to the next level with more intense, strategic combat. Players can take to the skies and seas through two massive, action-packed campaigns across 28 missions, featuring some of the most decisive naval battles in history.

A historically accurate U.S. campaign puts players in command of the U.S. Navy's Pacific fleet through the Battles of Guadalcanal and on to Iwo Jima, Okinawa and victory. For the first time, players have a chance to rewrite history, commanding a Japanese campaign as the Imperial Japanese Navy from Pearl Harbor to Asia, Australia and beyond, expanding its empire throughout the Pacific Rim.

New Prototype Trailer And More

New Prototype Trailer And More
Published by: wes213 on Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Ok so i might be at the point of ranting about this game now but GOD it looks good to me so heres the new trailer from the New York Comic Con and a heads up on a possible release after the clip.

As an added bonus to the new trailer joystiq is reporting a could be release date leaked to them via E-mail: Perusing the assorted New York Comic Con invitations in our inbox this morning, we stumbled across one particularly interesting line among the bullet points in an email from Activision -- a much more solid release date for upcoming open-world/action game Prototype. And rather than put words into the company's mouth, let's look right at what came from the press release:

"Hands-on – fans get their first chance to play the highly anticipated open-world/action thriller, PROTOTYPE, planned for release in June."

We can't say for sure if we're excited for the potential 12 hours of shape-shifting, open-world madness yet, but look for our first impressions later this week

PROTOTYPE Countdown???

PROTOTYPE Countdown???

With all the posts and info i have put up over the last year or so on Activision's soon to be smash hit Prototype i would hope by now you have at least looked it over and maybe even found it to be a game you want in your collection, if you have then you might just want to check this out for yourself.

A new page has popped up by Activision for Prototype and not just any page but a countdown of some sort, i can only guess at it right now but i am willing to guess its a count down to a release date.

If this turns out to be a release date count down i can say for sure i will be playing Prototype in 12 days and be making sure this game can stand up to all the hype i have thrown out there for it, so with that said i can only hope you take the time to check out the videos and info for this game and see what i have been ranting about for damn near a year now.
