Getting the Better of your Online Opponent

Getting the Better of your Online Opponent
Published by: forahobby on Wednesday, June 13, 2018

Whatever your game, playing online takes practice and perseverance to get the better of the other players. Youngsters will more often than not learn the physical moves a bit quicker, but there is no reason that older players can't work it out and be just as effective in competition.

Getting the Better of your Online Opponent

Being competitive is what playing these games is all about and if you don't know how to improve your play, then the games will lose your interest very quickly. It doesn't matter whether you want to play at the highest level or just against your mates, winning is why we play games.

However, whether it be the first-person shooter (FPS) games or online poker, without any help, it can take a long time to master the tricks of the trade. But, there are tips which can help you speed up your improvement. Below we've outlined a short list of hints and tricks that should help anyone wanting to get better at winning.

Starting the Game

If you're a complete newbie to online FPS game-playing then, first of all, familiarize yourself with the controls. Only a few years ago, controls were easy to master…there were only one or two buttons. Today's controllers have a multitude of buttons (up to ten!), and some of them are multi-functional in some games. So, firstly work out what they all do and learn the mix combinations. It's worth remembering that there are quite a few variations on a game controller as well - the Sony PlayStation Dualshock 4, the Microsoft Xbox One Controller, the Razer Sabretooth, the Logitech, the Nyki 80660 etc. might all look similar but they all their devotees who revel in the minor differences. Whatever your tool, learn to use it like it was part of you. Only practice will do.

Learn the Easy Way

Whatever game you want to play competitively, always start on the easiest difficulty. With first-person shooter games, this will mean that everything will be slower and you'll get to see and learn the mechanics of the game. Practice hard until you're comfortable before moving to the intermediate and then harder difficulties. There is no rush and if you haven't mastered one element, then keep practising it before you move on.

If online poker is your chosen game, then it is important that you start at the low-stakes tables. There are two very good reasons; firstly, you're not going to be taken for lots of money by the more experienced players on a high stakes table, and secondly, you're more likely to be playing with other relative newbies who are learning the game like you. You're all going to make mistakes, but at least the losses won't be so high. Even if you are new to the game, you need to be careful you don’t display any of the classic online poker tells, they can leave you as a target for those that know what to look for.

Patience

The younger you are then it is likely that you'll possess less of this valuable asset. As they say, ''Rome wasn't built in a day''. No one became an online sharpshooter overnight, and no one won the World Series of Poker without having spent many hours learning the game and exercising lots of patience. With FPS games, there is a lot to learn - work out the geography of the game, understand your weapons (rate of fire, distance etc.). With games like Battlefield and Call of Duty, knowing the lay of the land is vital if you're ever going to be good at them. With poker, you'll need to understand the timing of opponents moves and what they mean considering the state of play and how that opponent might have played before. Learn to recognise when an opponent is using the pre-action check or fold button. Learn how an opponent’s avatar name can give away his style of play or his age - which again can dictate the way he or she will play.

Battlefield 4's Community Test Environment (CTE) Hits Xbox One

Battlefield 4's Community Test Environment (CTE) Hits Xbox One

Battlefield 4's Community Beta Testing client has launched and is now available for Xbox One Preview Program members.

Battlefield 4 Community Test Environment (CTE) Xbox One

The Battlefield 4 CTE, or Community Test Environment, allows gamers to test upcoming releases, tweaks, and changes coming to the full retail version of the game before they are live. This has been instrumental in helping us change and improve on Battlefield 4 in an unprecedented way –
all from the input of our community of gamers. That’s right! You, the gaming community, can help test new features, maps, and more while providing feedback to improve the game.

This first release on Xbox One includes the Community Map that’s currently being developed (see the Community Map Project) and three night maps from the “Night Operations Project”. Keep in mind that anything you see in the CTE might not be released into the retail game.

The type of updates on the CTE on Xbox One will be bigger and less frequent than on PC. However, you can still expect regular updates, tests, and prototypes. As you play the latest build on the CTE, you’ll be able to provide your feedback on the CTE Battlelog forums.

How to Sign Up for the Battlefield 4 CTE on Xbox One

In order to participate, you’ll need to own Battlefield 4 on Xbox One, be a Battlefield 4 Premium member for the Xbox One, and be a member of the Xbox One Preview program (learn how to get invited by a friend who is in the XBPP here). Once you’ve signed up and have been selected, the Battlefield 4 CTE build will be available in the Xbox Marketplace.

For more information about signing up for the Battlefield 4 Xbox One CTE, please visit the Battlefield 4 Xbox One CTE FAQ.

FUSE Video Game Launches May 28 in North America and May 31 in Europe

Electronic Arts and Insomniac Games announced today that the four-person co-op action shooter "FUSE" will launch on May 28 in North America and May 31 in Europe. Fuse thrusts players into the roles of four elite, covert agents - Dalton Brooks, Izzy Sinclair, Jacob Kimble and Naya Deveraux - each with their own xenotech weapon and set of unique skills used to fight to protect mankind from a deadly alien energy source known as fuse.

Developed by the critically-acclaimed independent studio, Insomniac Games, Fuse will mark the company’s first multiplatform release when it becomes available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this spring.

"Insomniac Games is known for delivering best-in-class weaponry that breaks the mold of traditional video games - and Fuse is no different," said Ted Price, CEO and Founder of Insomniac Games. "These xenotech weapons further the innovation players will find in this unique, action co-op shooter. We can’t wait to bring Fuse, our first multi-platform game, to gamers worldwide this May."

Players who pre-order FUSE from select retailers will be able to unlock special armor and weapon customization for each of the game’s four elite agents. These weapons can be used to bolster their characters’ respective arsenals through increased damage on all one-handed weapons. Learn more about the pre-order bonuses just after the break.
