Introduction
Many 360-HQ users have emailed or posted in our forums and blogs about the problems they have when trying to view XviD or DivX videos OFFLINE.. This short but sweet tutorial should help everyone out. If it has worked for you and you can also verify that our tutorial works, please post a reply in the official forum thread linked below.
Let's Get Started
1. Remove the update entirely
1.1 Go to My XBOX Tab > System Settings > Memory > Hard Drive > System Items and Remove the Optional Media Update.
1.2 Go to My XBOX Tab > System Settings > Memory and hover over the Hard Drive and Press Y (Device Options), select Clear System Cache and confirm.
1.3 Reboot the console.
2. New Silver Account
2.1 Now when I tried to make a new xbox live account on my console it would always give me a upgrade to gold for a month - no good. So go to xbox.com and create a new XBox live Silver account.
2.2 On your console, recover this gamertag (Make sure you're logged out) My XBox > Sign in > Recover Gamertag) and follow the menus.
3. Media Update Download
3.1 Restart (The console should now auto login to your new account, keep it this way) and play a video, you'll be prompted to get the media update. Do so, and you'll find you can now play your videos offline - even after a restart.
