Introduction
This tutorial will explain how to flash the original firmware back onto a Samsung Xbox 360 DVDROM drive.. While it's not required to restore Samsung drives to original firmware before upgrading like it is with Hitachi drives, this tutorial will cover a few different ways to restore.
Disabling Firmguard
Firmguard is a feature in all Xtreme firmware from version 4.x on and will need to be disabled in order to read and flash to the drive. There are 2 ways to disable Firmguard:
1) Bad-flash method with VIA chipset only (In Textbook's tutorial under ms28 section)
If you are restoring from Xtreme 4.x or above you will need to do one of the above regardless of whether you have an ms25 or ms28 drive. People with ms25 drives who also have VIA chipsets can simply follow the bad-flash method as though they were flashing an ms28. People with ms25 drives who do not have VIA chipsets will need to use the 0800 disc.
Method 1 - Direct flash using MTKFlash
Create a bootable USB in Xtreme Boot Maker (either version) or in iPrep -- it doesn't matter which one you use. Then copy your orig.bin to the root of the bootable USB drive (where MTKFlash is) and boot the computer from USB. When you reach DOS plug the SATA cable into the 360 and run:
mtkflash w /m /sata orig.bin
Method 2 - Flash using Xtreme Boot Maker 0.3.6
Create a bootable USB in Xtreme Boot Maker 0.3.6. Then browse to the BACKUPS folder on the bootable USB drive and create a folder with the first 7 digits of your own unique 360 serial number. Then go in that folder and create another folder with the last 5 digits of your own unique serial. Copy your orig.bin into this folder. It should look like this but with your own serial numbers for folder names instead:
Boot the computer from USB, when you reach DOS plug the SATA cable into the 360 and run:
SAMORIG xxxxxxx yyyyy (where x and y are your unique serial numbers)
Method 3 - Flash using Xtreme Boot Maker 0.5.3
Create a bootable USB in Xtreme Boot Maker 0.5.3. Then browse to the BACKUPS folder on the bootable USB drive and create a folder with the first 7 digits of your own unique 360 serial number. Then go in that folder and create another folder with the last 5 digits of your own unique serial. Copy your orig.bin into this folder and rename it to xtremefw.bin. It should look like this but with your own serial numbers for folder names instead:
Boot the computer from USB, when you reach DOS plug the SATA cable into the 360 and run:
xFlash xxxxxxx yyyyy (where x and y are your unique serial numbers)
