"We're Bungie, not Halo," Bungie's music director Marty O'Donnell told 1UP (video here) at PLAY! in Chicago, recently. The development of Halo 3 is taking up a sizable chunk of Bungie's time, but the studio doesn't want to be relegated to just making Halo games forever. O'Donnell indicated members of the Bungie team have expressed interest in creating games for Xbox Live Arcade -- does that mean, as people have started to speculate, that this will be Bungie's last Halo game? "We're not walking away from Halo, because it's a great universe and a great franchise. There's lots of story that we can tell about Halo, but we're working on other stuff."
1UP News writer Patrick Klepek also quizzes Marty O'Donnell on his involvement in the Halo movie ("There's a lot of expectation and there's a lot of apprehension...") and why the Halo 3 announcement teaser opened with a piano (think Eyes Wide Shut).
Microsoft advises against function without help from a professional.
A small corner of the Internet pointed out that the Xbox 360 Spring Update boasted a special feature -- the ability to clear the cache on the Xbox 360.
Here's how: "Go to the system blade and then memory. Press Y on either the HDD or a MU and then press X,X,Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X. Once you do this a blade will pop up saying: This will perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices. Do you want to continue? Pick yes or no."
We asked Microsoft about this feature, what exactly the button combination does and what purpose it serves -- here's what they told us: "The HDD cache clearing feature is a part of the Xbox 360 technical support process and is only supported in those instances. While the cache clearing operation will not harm or render your console inoperable, it should only be used when instructed by the Microsoft customer support staff. As always, any gamers experiencing issues with their console should contact 800-4-MYXBOX instead of attempting to troubleshoot on their own via this feature."
There you have it, don't operate this vehicle without a license, apparently.
Well it looks like some clarification has come out about the new Personal Gamerpicture option. You do not need to have a Live Vision Camera to have a Personal Gamerpic.
"The personal gamer picture is a new feature enabled with the Spring Update. You do not need the Xbox Live Vision camera for this; you can go pick a new image right now. Personal gamer pictures will only be seen by others who are on your friends list. Everyone else sees your public picture.
When the Xbox Live Vision camera does become available this fall you will also be able to take your own photo using the camera. Again only your friends will be able to see this picture.
If you know a friend on the Xbox Team, or who works at Microsoft, there is a chance you may get to see their personal picture taken from the camera. We have been beta testing the camera and everyone really is having a fun time with the cool new feature."
This might lead the way for the ability to create your own pictures on your pc, and transfer them over. Only time will tell.
The Xbox 360 has a clear cache feature, following the Spring Dashboard Update. The clear cache feature is not visible from any of the Dashboard's menus, so it must be accessed using a series of button combinations. To clear the cache on your Xbox 360, do the following:
- At the 360's memory selection screen, press the "Y" button while on the memory or HDD option.
- Press the following button sequence: X, X and the left (bumper), right (bumper), X, X.
- A pop-up says maintenance will be performed on your Xbox 360.
- Answer "yes" to clear the cache.
(Fixed) - The source Say's triggers but it has been reported that you must use the (bumpers).
In a newsletter sent earlier this week from Microsoft, there were hints at a new PGR3 download. This new package will include five cars, and two new game modes, 'Cat and Mouse' and 'Proximity Based Racing'. This will also cost 500 points.
More surprising is the 'Hardcore Package' for RPG game Kameo, which will cost 500 points and will be released in July. This will include harder versions of the single player and co-op modes, new leaderboards, new skins and a new co-op game type.
Arcade game Cloning Clyde is also listed for a July release costing a pricey sum of 800 points, along with Frogger for 400 and Lumines Live for a whopping 1200 points, which is due in August to September. Roboblitz and Pac-Man end the list at 800 and 400 points respectively.
I will have to say it looks like all of us will have some interest in picking up some Microsoft Points.
After messing with the (new) dashboard update i had some music playing off my hard drive. I inserted halo 2 while it was playing and the music just keeps on playing!
(Plus you can change song and pause/play/stop with the media remote!.) This is a feature I'm sure was put on 360 by accident but a welcome edition!
(Note:) If you stream music from your PC sometimes it will stop when booting up xbox 1 games. The hard drive custom music works fine.
