“Match Made in Hell” month continues, as Microsoft Game Studios and “Gears of War” developer Epic Games wake the dead with a celebrity launch event at the famed Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles
To celebrate the upcoming Emergence Day, several lucky gamers will win the chance to play the highly-anticipated Xbox 360 title, “Gears of War,” prior to launch and party with celebrities living and dead at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 12:01 a.m.
Thrown by Microsoft Game Studios in advance of the title’s Nov. 12 release, this exclusive event will be hosted by members of the “Gears of War” development team, including Lead Designer Cliff Bleszinski. In keeping with the bone-chilling theme, developers, industry luminaries and Tinseltown’s hottest young talent will be mixing and mingling in a real mausoleum, at the famous Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles.
This one-of-a-kind venue is a working cemetery that's the final resting place of some of Hollywood's greatest stars, making it the perfect locale to welcome this horrific game to the Xbox 360.

With the threat of Emergence Day on the horizon, Microsoft Game Studios released a new “Gears of War” site that allows gamers inside the mind of its lead character, Marcus Fenix. The site, which can be found at http://www.gearsofwar.com/, immerses gamers through a series of disturbing flashback videos that foretell various aspects of the game’s storyline and highlight the uniquely destroyed beauty of the games environment.
Visitors to the site can also pre-order “Gears of War,” visit the community forums, share the site with a friend, or register to join the Xbox community for exclusive updates.
“Gears of War” thrusts gamers into humankind’s epic battle for survival against the Locust Horde, a nightmarish race of creatures that surface from the bowels of the planet. Blending the best of tactical action games with the best of survival horror titles, “Gears of War” features cinematic, beautifully rendered interactive environments with high-definition visuals. “Gears of War” will ship on Nov. 7, 2006 in North America.
Gears of War just got all viral on us. People who subscribed to the game's official site received an email this morning with a cryptic message and even more cryptic link.
The message seems to be a bit of coalition propaganda, but a dozen of the words in the paragraph are hyperlinks to the same page. The links all point to a sub-page of the Gears of War site called 48HrsExclusiveAccess. The page first shows a little black and white security video of Marcus Fenix in a prison cell and then goes black. You're give three matches to light and explore a wall on the page. If you click on any of the four messages you find there you get to see four different videos showing backstory and some gameplay.
More interesting is the fact that the dozen words that are hyperlinks in the email form the sentence: Marcus Fenix has been located. You have 48 hours to mobilize.
The question is what does that mean. It could mean that the linked page is only around for 48 hours or, let's hold our breath, that we will be perhaps getting a demo of Gears of War in two days.
Go, rend the site, let us know what you come up with. The full email is on the jump.
