Overview
Bethesda games have truly excelled with the latest installment in the fallout series. Having only played this one I cannot say how the story fits with the whole Fallout universe, but from other reviews I have read it fits in pretty well.
You start you adventure growing up in a Vault, you get your Pipboy 3000 and then quickly thrown out in to a post apocalyptic wasteland of Washington DC in search of your father. What will the world hold in store for you, everyone's game is different. You choose how fast or how slow you play the game. You can do all the little side quests or just plug away at the main quest.
Controls
In essence Fallout 3 is a Role Playing First Person Shooter. It has the standard sort of controls of a FPS with the LT aims, RT shoots, X Reloads. But you will quickly realize to get really good at this game you will have to use the RPG elements in the game. One of these key elements is V.A.T.S or Vault Assisted Targeting System.
A simple tap of the RB and you go into a targeting mode that tells you your chances of hitting a specific targets head, arms, torso, gun etc. Depending on how you level your character and your specific abilitites you will greatly increase your chances of getting a head shot at long ranges.
Your Pipboy 3000 is basically your menu system, that you wear on your wrist. You can check your current missions, stats, maps, inventory etc, via your handy little gadget. Get a bit lonely strolling through the wasteland you can also listen to the radio. To access your Pipboy you just have to hit the B button.
The controls aren't too taxing and you quickly get used to how your Pipboy works and how to Run and Shoot. Like I said they aren't too taxing.
Graphics
Bethesda used the same graphics engine as they used in Oblivion, but having the extra time to play with it really shows how good they are at using it. The graphics are crisp and clean and the draw distance is excellent. Get up on a ridge and you can see for a good two to three kilometers around you. The character models are good and everyone look different and not a generic face slapped on a body
Sound
The sounds in Fallout are really good. Every weapon has its own unique sound and it really adds to the experience. Being an RPG there is plenty of voice acting from the NPC's. Every NPC has their own dialogue. All in all the sound is believable.
Overall
I thought that Oblivion really raised the bar for RPG's on the 360. That was until I played Fallout 3. It is truly it's own little world that you will come to love the nuances of exploring. If you are sitting on the fence on to whether or not to get this game, I can thoroughly recommend it.
