Codemasters today announced that GRID 2, the long-awaited sequel to the BAFTA-award winning, critically acclaimed Race Driver: GRID, will officially launch May 28 in North America and May 31 everywhere else, on all three major platforms.
Codemasters has also announced a GRID 2 Special Edition, available for pre-order, which features extra content, redeemable via download on PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE for Xbox 360 and Windows PC, illustrated in screenshots also released today.
Been some time since we have seen this game in the news but you can all rest easy knowing the game developers haven't forgot about it or you, and to prove the point here is a codemasters report giving you the full low down on this downloadable content thats available now.
CodeMasters reports: Today, we are pleased to announce the release of the new downloadable '8-ball' premium content pack for Race Driver:GRID.
Available on both the XBOX 360 and Playstation 3, the '8-ball' pack will set you back a mere 800 Microsoft points and £6.29/$9.99/EUR7.99 from the Playstation Network. News regarding when the PC DLC is coming out will be available soon.
New featured cars include the McLaren F1 GTR, TVR Cerbera Speed 12, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, Honda S2000, Nissan GT-R (S-G2008), VW Nardo, Pontiac Firebird Trans AM and the Volvo C30.
In addition to the cars, there are two new multiplayer events to compete in set on existing circuits from across Race Driver: GRID's three continents and designed to test drivers to their very limit online. On Xbox 360, the pack will also feature four new Achievements worth 25 points each to earn from four new competitive challenges including Jack Of All Trades, Drift Master, Gas Guzzler and Clean Passing.
THOSE “8 BALL” CARS IN FULL:
McLaren F1 GTR – The McLaren F1 GTR wrote itself into the history books as the only GT car to ever win Le Mans outright in the modern era and is considered one of the finest examples of automotive engineering in history.
TVR Cerbera Speed 12 – The TVR 12 smashes past 60 MPH in just under 3 seconds. Production models were planned, but they were considered too powerful to sell to the general public.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X – For over a decade the Evo has been billed as a supercar slayer – now the Evo-X in GRID lets you unleash its sledgehammer aggression in the Pro-Tuned class.
Honda S2000 – This roadster is heavily modified for drifting and has become a cult-favourite thanks to its award winning engine.
Nissan GT-R (S-G2008) – One of the world’s hottest cars makes its debut in Race Driver: GRID in its fully tuned racing spec.
VW Nardo – This powerful concept car made real from VW uses its 600BHP engine to rocket to 60MPH in 3.1 seconds.
Pontiac Firebird Trans AM – The 1971 racing edition of this true American legend is a worthy addition to GRID’s exclusive group of muscle cars.
Volvo C30 – Adding to Race Driver: GRID’s touring car roster comes the C30, Volvo’s agile, cutting edge hot-hatch straight from the STCC grid.
ACHIEVEMENT CHALLENGES:
Jack Of All Trades – Win an online race in each of the 8 Ball pack cars.
Drift Master - Achieve a 99x combo in the Honda S2000.
Gas Guzzler - Clock up over 250 miles in your favourite 8 Ball pack car.
Clean Passing - Win a clean race in an 8 Ball Pack car from last position.
In a recent thread on codemasters forums you can see that not to many gamers out there are happy with the GRID staff decision to reset all the leader boards due to a few gamers out there who had been using the brown screen glitch to post better times.
One Gamer said: As you can see from this post on the Codemasters forums, the firms decision to reset Race Driver: GRID users’ ranks as well as leaderboard times with a recent patch isn’t going down well with some.
Apparently there’s been some cheating going on, which may account for the decision, but for one gamer at least, his honest hard work to in reaching the top rank of Elite has now been wiped out.
“I think we’re all Entitled to an explanation from CM,” said gamer Osan-gar. “I don’t expect there to be another patch/ update; I suppose it possible, but not plausible. Regardless, we should be told what [happened]. If this was an unintentional result of the patch, then I’d say Codemasters needs to consider a name change. If was INTENTIONAL… Well, I’ll probably continue to be a fan of the game, and subsequent releases, (it IS a great game) but I’ll be waiting on USED copies dropping to around $20 before I buy a follow-up/ sequel. The pre- and post-patch issues are NOT encouraging me to support Codemasters with a new game purchase.”
Videogaming247.com has said: "We’ll drop Codemasters a line about this when the office opens."
I got a feeling no matter what answers they find it wont be good enough for some gamers and it just might turn some gamers off to GRID all together.
Did you download the Race Driver: GRID demo but found you are still not sure if you want to fork out the cash for it, if so your in luck, codemasters has released a second Race Driver: GRID demo, sponsored by eBay Motors. The 690mb download features the eBay Motors Muscle Series and two tracks.
Race Driver: GRID is now available on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with a Nintendo DS release following in August.
In an article on next-gen Codemasters has come up with a short term solution for freezing problems on the Xbox 360 version of Grid and have a full on fix under way.
The game’s developer's and publisher's have not ignored the problem at all and said: “We're close to getting to the root of the problem and we will be including a fix and a backup workaround option (just in case) in our forthcoming patch due within the next few weeks or sooner. We think the issue is due to specific drive hardware, possibly with bad blocks/sectors.”
They even went on to suggest the following temporary fix: “The best temporary measure is to copy your gamer tag to a mem card, remove the hard drive and run the game that way. Replays and caching will be disabled, though instant replay will still work as this caches to memory.”
