Building my own Media Center Published on 05-24-2013
" I have bought a couple of media players and the problem was always the same, It lacked things that I wanted and I couldn't update it at all
So I had plans to build my own media for like 2 years and never started.
I am going to start it today, I am going to use a Raspberry pi for that (it's a micro computer with size of a credit card).
- I am plaining in Installing it the great XBMC (stand alone, no android running behind, xbmc only for max power),
-I am thinking in overclocking it (adding some copper heatshinks for the extra heat)
- Getting a cool costume acrylic box for it (transparent)
- Installing an IR receiver and then I will config a remote for it
- Add a usb wifi module (so I can get my media files from my seedbox and pc)
- The system will boot from a Class 10 32GB sd card (So I may copy some movies without the need yo plug my external HDD) "

| Almost done, I swap the board for a more recent one with double the ram.
Now I just have to wait a few days for some items to arrive from USA.

| Of course, once it's done I will post all pics in a thread ;)

| I have set up the essentials... It's not ready yet because I had to import the wireless adapter (I wanted one with external antenna) and jumper cables for the IR sensor (I couldn't find in any local store)
Well the new XBMC is just amazing... I can even play my movies from Seedbox like it was netflix. It's awesome.
I hope to get it ready next week, I am sure you guys gonna like it

| oh i forgot to say i just use my Samsung TV to play my media, no matter what it is. I used to use my Xbox 360. The new samsung tv's are the shit if you ask me. plays 3D MKV files no problems too.

| My media Center will be able to play files from NAS like yours. The reason I prefer a XBMC over any player (360, blue ray) is because it can read all formats and subtitle formats. Plus it's so small I can take it everywhere.
Yeah mate, I plan in taking pics and then I will create topic showing it off.
I love building stuff (not mention I am sure I will save money by build my own media center)

| wicked! sounds sweet, let us know how you go with it. Maybe you could post a thread in the off topic forums with some pics once you get it underway. For all of my HD, 3D and DivX movies, music and photos etc i have a QNAP NAS. It's a standalone unit. You just connect it to your network and all of your devices can access it, even the 360, Xbox one will be support, PS3 is. I have a brand new blu-ray player which i got with my 3d tv but i have never had the need to use it.
anyway, good luck with it, my arcade cabinet is about 90% complete but im thinking about upgrading the guts of it again too!
