SALE: Zombies heads... Half off
Before I begin reviewing this game, let me just inform you that I am extremely biased towards zombie games. Ever since Resident Evil 4, for the Gamecube, I have loved games that utilize the simple horror of the undead. Unfortunately, there are also the duds (Resident Evil Outbreak, House of the Dead, etc...) In my opinion, Resident Evil 4 is the only good game out of the series, and for that matter, the best zombie game ever... That is until Dead Rising was released.
Dead Rising added an element that I had never seen used in any game prior to it. I am speaking, of course, of the limitless possibilities of gore and destruction; you can literally use anything in your path as a weapon, which as you will soon find out, is extremely fun. Other games have tried to do this (Half-Life 2, with the gravity gun) but it just seems that the way Dead Rising does it is a refreshing change.
Another thing that we don't see that often in games are large numbers of enemies on-screen simultaneously. This is definitely not the case with Dead Rising, for most of the game, you will be surrounded by zombies at all times, struggling to find new weapons to crush their heads in with, but hey, you get around.
However this game does have its cons. You will probably be wondering why it takes multiple shots to the head in order to kill one (non zombie) person. Sometimes you will just get sick of your radio ringing unrelentingly. Sometimes you might get sick of the storyline... Well for the last two, there is hope, an unlock-able game mode called sandbox, where there are no objectives, just you satisfying your inherent urge to take a picture of a zombie wearing a horse mask.
The biggest flaw of this game is its high rate of melting Xbox360 GPU's... This might be something you want to look in to before playing this game.
This game also has a side effect, which is causing players to develop butt soars... You'll see what I mean.
I give this game 9/10
