B.S. and a small achievement rant. Published on 05-24-2008
" I been getting gamer burn out for the last few days, like i pop in a game and start to play for a goal and "boom!" right there in the middle of it i want to play something different.
Yeah i guess it could just be me and my A.D.D. style but I'm starting to think it has more to do with some of the lame achievements they pop in there.
With GTA IV the kill a Dev achievement just makes you think why try and GH III with its beat a Dev achievement, i know Hobb's got that one but damn it don't seem like the most realistic gaol to set for the common gamer.
Am i alone on this or do you guys and girls feel the bar is set just a little to high on some of the achevments?
Maybe I'm just being a sniveling burnt out ***** about the whole thing. "

| Nice rant gamexxove, it wasn't to much in fact you are on the money with the whole point.
FF i am in no way a achievement whore and the truth is achievement whores dont bother me, i care only about my score and i care about it very little.
Its like Hobb's said when it pops up on the screen its just a little treat and i think that the goal shouldn't be set so high (in some cases) for a pat on the back.
In the case of a viral achievement like GH III i feel why put that in if its not a real goal and all you got to do is trip over the achievement like i did. lol

| It appears someone has finally got it
MGC Page
But when you go to their xbox live profile they appear to be one of those people who won't let others see their achievements.

| Yeah the GTA IV kill a developer achievement is bunk because it isn't Viral so you actually have to kill a developer. Where as the ones in Guitar Hero 3 or Tony Hawks Project 8 are Viral so you just have to beat someone with the achievement. I think it is a good add-in for GTA IV because then you don't have hundreds of gamerscore whores who have 100% done, you actually have to play and enjoy the game and hope you get lucky. I think Rockstar did this because they don't like achievement whores and would prefer someone get the achievement because they like the game. Just my two-cents

| I hear you wes. I play most games on my old account that is not on XBL because that is where all my gamer score is, I have not payed m$ $30 yet to get it back on live because I am realy not sure if I want to because the only justification I have is that it has all my gamer score, I combine that with the thought of "Why am I trying to get my gamer score up?" and I am left a little confused.
I mean what does gamer score get me? Its not like I am special or something becaus I have almost 9000,, I could tripple that and I would still be a small fish in XBL, heck I would be a small fish compaired to alot of you guys here.
Ok so getting gamer score for prestige, at least for me is not a factor. so what is left? Nothing except to challeng your self and some achievements are just fun to get.
I found out I stand out more with a very small gamer score, I started my new account and only played COD4 live on that one, so I kept my gamer score at 0.
I was realy trying hard to build up my gamer score untill one day I kind of woke up.
I was on my 3rd play through of Mass Effect trying to finish up my achievements where you have to play with a certain character as your partner for the great majority of the game, you have to do 3 play throughs to do this for all the characters. The game was fun the first time through because it was all new, The second was ok but the 3rd time through was very dull, I was having no fun, had to do all the side missions, and I was playing for hours and hours every day for just a couple achievements that had low points and no one would care about anyway. Half way through the 3rd play through I thought, What the hell am I doing? I have totaly wasted the day away (working not having fun, and for no payoff) I could have went to the beach that day or done something productive., I was spening many hours playing a game I was not enjoying, for a few points no one gives a shit about. Thats when I decided screw it, Im just playing to have fun, I am a happier gamer now lol.
As for the achievements like play with a developer, I totaly agree. They realy have nothing to do with the time you put in the game or your skill level. You are only going to get it if you are lucky. I mean you could play for thousands of hours and never get that achievement, while a 10 year old kid could rent the game for a day, get in the game, start driving arround and accidently run over someone that happens to be a developer and BOOM, he gets the achievement! WTF!
I dont really have anything against very hard achievements if they are based on skill or ammount of effort, Like the 10,000 player kills on Gears of war, At least that you have controll of and is a bit of a badge of honor because not everyone can get it.
If only we could use our gamer score for something. such as bonus gamer points or lets say you get 1000 gamer score on a game you would get free download maps for that game, etc. Crap, I wrote way too much, I better shut up now.

| LOL yeah i know what you are saying but the real kick in the butt is i got this posted and then went down to play some GH III and got the meet your maker achievement.
So my guess is you just got to play someone that has the achievement then you get it.

| There are games to get great achievements from and games to get crap all achievements from.. I know exactly what your saying man.. You need to just pick which games you want to go after your achievements on.. Everyone is different so some games you may be more likely to finish then others.. Set your goals on those ones..
Im sure it will pass.. I didn't get over acheivement points until i was around 30k.. Im 50k now and finally I don't go point hunting so much.. I still enjoy the blip when it pops up though i must admit.
