Ok got myself a Play and Charge Kit for my wireless controller. I'm not looking to use it on the laptop as a games controller. I am only looking to use it on the laptop to charge up when the 360 is off. I'm running a dual boot system of Xp SP2 and PCLINUX OS. The charger when plugged into the laptop doesn't do anything, no LED lights come on, the add new hardware wizard pops up when I plug it in but says it cannot install the device. Under Device Manager I have/had a yellow exclamation mark and the device is listed as USB Device. I found a driver/installer and installed it and under Device Manager in the HID section and I now have MS Xbox 360 Play and Charge Kit but when I right click and select properties under the General tab device status says: No drivers are installed for this device. There are no red or yellow exclamation marks against it. It could be charging but I'd still like some indication. The weird things is though that if I boot into Linux the charge kit lights, so it's obviously working correctly just not under XP. Anyone know where I can get the proper driver for this? Also I asked on another forum and someone says that you don't need drivers un Windows which is fair enough but why does the LED not come on to show that it's at least charged/charging? Why does the LED come on under Linux?

Have you tried using a wired controller, cause when you use a play and charge kit the controller still works wirelessly. I would try a wired controller first. They use to sell a wireless receiver to make the wireless controller work on pc. Hope this helps
Xp is fully up to date, when GRUB starts and I get the option to either boot Linux or Xp the LED comes on, it's Red. If I select Linux it stays on as Linux boots but as I know it's fully charged it switches to Green. If I select Xp it stays on until the Microsoft Xp Professional screen appears with the 3 blue blocks running across the screen and then the LED goes out. As I've said it is showing under Device Manager but status says that drivers are missing, it's really weird as most people have said they just plug it in and that's it. I don't have a wired controller I'm afraid and I'm not going out of my way just to purchase one to prove the kit is working as I know it is, looks like I'll have to live with it and just boot into Linux when I need to charge it up.

Keep in mind that not all releases are a must. SP3 was released with more bugs than Vista itself. Though several of these bugs have been fixed since it's launch, SP3 is quite buggy.
SP2 is still the standard recommended requirements for any computer. I have two computers, one with SP2 and the other with SP3. They are both compatible with charge and play kit in my standards.

hey mate,
sorry i missed your topic but i had the same problem.
The play & charge kit will not charge using my PC or laptop either.
I chased it up and it said it doesnt support it which is weird.
The 360 Controller is identified by windows but you cannot use the joystick either until you buy the wireless receiver (which i bought).. Its worth every cent.. I love have a 360 controller on my pc now.
anyway, from what i know so far it only charges your 360 controller when you have it plugged into your 360, i didn't look into it further but im sure you could hack it to charge via pc.
