|

If anyone is into Vintage Computers particularly the Commodore 64, I have found a simple way to backup all of your 5.25" DISKETTES to PC so you can get all your old files and use them or open them in a emulator like VICE etc on the Xbox 1, PC or 360 etc.
It's pretty sweet.. Basically all you need is to buy a X1541 SD Card Reader, which emulates the 1541 disk drive (5.25" inch disks - double sided/low density). If you connect both the emulated 1541 and a real disk drive you can copy and convert pretty simple..
Here are some links to similar stuff i have found on ebay for anyone who might have their own c64 or 128 computer and wants to backup or even go the other way and convert the d64 files back to real disks.
* please note that it will NOT copy disks that have copy protection.

If you have ever had a c64 id love to hear about it!
The adapter Im using is the SD2IEC open source version, very sweet. I have successfully backed up disks to the SD memory card and vice versa.
Here are some commands which may help anyone wanting to setup one:

If you want to backup protect original disks, then you are going to be interested in buying the ZoomFloppy.. With a ZoomFloppy and NIBTOOLS yuo can create images of the originals. I have one now but i have to find my original 1541 drive with parallel cable, otherwise ill have to install a new one. Learn more here - http://www.go4retro.com/products/zoomfloppy/
Designed by Commodore enthusiast Nate Lawson, ZoomFloppy utilizes the ubiquitous OpenCBM Commodore device access libraries and application utilities for operation. In addition, applications like the VICE Emulator that include OpenCBM support will work with ZoomFloppy as well. Use ZoomFloppy and VICE to access actual Commodore IEC-based serial devices like the VIC-1541 disk drive or IEEE-488 based devices like the CBM 8050 from your emulator!
ZoomFloppy can be used with any OpenCBM supported operating system, including Unix/Linux/*BSD systems, Macintosh OS X machines, as well as Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Designer Nate Lawson has provided A convenient installation manual and package for Windows systems, while Christian Vogelgsang provides installation instructions and support for Mac OS X installation. More installation packages and manuals will be offered as time permits.
