"It's the highest compliment to the team and our fans to have a special themed Xbox 360 console...The precision and detail that's been put into the console captures the intensity and feel of 'Modern Warfare 2.' We can't wait for our community and fans around the world to see for themselves on Nov. 10Indeed, as the newly-minted Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 console will ship with a 250GB Hard Drive, two Xbox 360 Wireless Controllers, as well as an Xbox 360 Headset and a Standard Edition copy of "Modern Warfare 2" for $399.99.
A few multiplayer details are also being revealed. What we have so far is that 4 kills nets you a care package (an ammo and health drop via heli), 5 kills and you receive the option to use a predator missile, 7 kills enables the attack helicopter, etc. Also new to the series is ‘Tactical Insertion Equipment’ which allows you to place a mark where you will respawn. Word has also been given on some new perks including Scavenger (think looting but in an online FPS), Hardline (1 less kill is required for kill streak rewards), and Copycat (the ability to steal a class).
Neither Infinity Ward nor Microsoft has said when the console should reach stores. Microsoft also hasn't confirmed whether it will have any other 250GB versions, though the console maker has gradually been reserving the $399 price point for more and more limited editions, such as the discontinued Resident Evil 5 120GB pack.
Capcom is happy to announce that the wait for new Resident Evil 5 content is almost over! The new online multiplayer Versus mode will be available to download on Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7, 2009. For 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE, or $4.99 on the PlayStation Network, Resident Evil fans will be able to go up against each other for the most terrifying Versus mode to date.
Versus allows up to four players to match wits in online battles across two very different game types. Slayer’s Rule is a point-based game that challenges players to kill Majinis. In Survivor’s Rule, players hunt the most dangerous game, each other! Players can begin the hunt as Chris, Sheva or other secret characters, and choose from either one-on-one or two-versus-two team matches for either of the two gameplay styles.
Any Saw fans out there that may have been mad about the Saw video game getting dropped due to Brash going bankrupt can start rejoice, seems the game was picked up by Konami and put back on the work table.
variety.com is reporting: Konami has confirmed an earlier Cut Scene report that it bought the rights to bankrupt publisher Brash's in-production video game based on "Saw." It will be released this fall on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 to coincide with Lionsgate's "Saw VI." (As you've probably noticed, Konami provided us with the first ever screenshots from the game as well).
Though there's obviously no sequel plans yet, the Japanese publisher is undoubtedly hoping "Saw" will become its second survival horror franchise, alongside "Silent Hill."
"Because we have leadership in the survival horror genre, we're passionate about it and wanted to find another property on par with 'Silent Hill," explained David Daniels, director of marketing for Konami. "'Saw' has grossed over $600 million worldwide and sold over 16 million DVDs, so we felt like it was a great opportunity to align ourselves with one of the most successful horror film franchises in history."
After Brash went bankrupt last fall, rights to the game reverted back to movie studio Lionsgate, which considered but ultimately rejected the idea of handling publishing itself. Konami then picked up the license and engaged developer Zombie, which was handling production for Brash, to finish "Saw" under its direction.
Saw2 The game's plot will be original, tying into but not directly adapting any of the films. As "Saw" fans might expect, gameplay will center on torturer Jigsaw's signature traps, turned into puzzles. Players control a character in an asylum who has to decide whether and how to solve the puzzles and save Jigsaw's victims.
"One of the big pillars of 'Saw' is the maniacal, twister serial killer Jigsaw's very unusual traps and you can expect that's something we'll carry forward," explained Daniels. "Some traps will even be a direct translation from the movies, particularly the iconic ones fans love."
Daniels declined to comment on whether actor Tobin Bell will voice his character Jigsaw, but I've confirmed from other sources that he will. No word on whether anyone else from the film is involved, except that the producers at Twisted Pictures have been consulting.
Brash had a lot riding on "Saw." It was going to be the company's first AAA title, its first not based on a Saw3 kids' movie, and its first sure to earn an M rating. As I was reporting on Brash's demise last fall, employees repeatedly said "Saw" was one of a few games in development they had been counting on, if the cash hadn't run out, to help turn around the company's reputation for low quality.
Konami has the opposite problem. Its signature franchise is one of the two biggest in survival horror, along with Capcom's "Resident Evil" (although whether that still qualifies as horror after the last installment is an open question). It doesn't have much to gain with "Saw," critically speaking, but it has lots to lose if the game doesn't measure up. The last thing Konami needs is to lose its survival horror credibility by putting out a mediocre licensed title.
If it works, however, Konami could end up with a pair of horror franchises that complement each other well: One that screws with gamers' minds and the other their stomachs.
"'Silent Hill' is more about psychological terror, but 'Saw' for us is more about graphic, intense horror that overwhelms you," explained Daniels. "We want players to turn away from the screen for just a moment because of the visual intensity."
Looks like all the Resident Evil fans out there are going to need to dig a bit deeper in to there pockets if they want the full RE5 experience, about 5 bucks or 400 MS points deeper.
Computerandvideogames.com reported: Capcom has given the first details on a new downloadable content pack for Resi 5, which will add some new multiplayer functions, as we reported yesterday.
Capcom explains: "Versus allows up to four players to match wits in online battles across two very different game types. Slayer's Rule is a point-based game that challenges players to kill Majinis. In Survivor's Rule, players hunt the most dangerous game, each other! Players can begin the hunt as Chris, Sheva or other secret characters, and choose from either one-on-one or two-versus-two team matches for either of the two gameplay styles."
Versus will be available on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network "a few weeks after" Resident Evil 5 ships this Friday. It will cost 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE or €4.99/£3.99 on the PlayStation Network.
While that price is not high at all it would seem that Capcom is really getting the hang of the DLC game, i just hope they don't step over the line and start charging for things gamers have come to expect to be in the game from day one.
With Resident Evil 5 about to drop on the gaming market the reviews are sure to start rolling in but it seems Capcom has a small list of things they dont want the reviewers to talk about, what and why are the first things that may come to mind as you read this so lets find out now.
Capcom has told VG247 today that a restriction on Resident Evil 5 reviews in the UK - that sought to stop journalists talking about or showing a “native village” in the game’s third chapter - was “accidentally” imposed and “is actually pointless”.
No such restriction was placed on US journalists.
It emerged in Friday night that UK reviewers had been told not to mention the section, where players first encounter spear-wielding African enemies.
Here’s what we asked on the subject this morning:
1. Why were reviewers told not to mention or show the island section of the third chapter in their pieces?
2. What other restrictions were placed on reviewers, and why?
And here’s Capcom’s statement in full, supplied by UK PR manager, Leo Tan:
First let me say that the restriction you listed was one of many restrictions in place for the review of Resident Evil 5. We did in fact supply an entire page of restrictions. This is common practice in the games industry, and we do it for all our games. Every publisher does it, as far as I’m aware. We do this to protect the integrity of our games.
There’s nothing worse than spoilers being published before the game is even out, and we’d rather that people who buy our games get the chance to discover the game in their own time, not when a magazine or website chooses to expose what happens. Our customers’ experience is paramount.
To answer your second question first, we also restricted the final chapter’s content, anything you unlock when you finish the game, any strategy the journalist might have used to defeat any of the bosses and numerous plot details. Again, this is standard practice, and I don’t think anyone who buys our games would disagree with this as being an important practice to maintain.
As to that specific restriction, in truth it was actually a restriction from the preview build that was accidentally carried over into the review document, and wasn’t one that the US team used. There is actually nothing in that section that you encounter that is not present in later parts of the game, so the restriction is actually pointless and not relevant.
And that’s that. The game’s out on Friday for PS3 and 360.
