The unannounced Xbox 360 Elite Edition has taken all over the headlines these last few days and now we are posting our third Zephy-related story of the day.
Last week, we showed you leaked pictures of the Xbox 360 Elite Edition but we were doubtful if they were not fake pictures created with Photoshop.
If there's still any doubt that Microsoft is about to release a black Xbox 360 that includes a 120 GB, well, here are some pictures to prove it.
A forum user at TGFC has posted pictures of the Xbox 360 Elite as it is getting out of production:
You might have looked at the simple title, and pondered to yourself, "Orb.... hmmm.... where have I heard that? Oh yea crackdown." well your not even close. Let me inform you of what Orb actually is.
If you have heard of Tversity, you know the basics of Orb. It is a content delivering app that will stream content via home network to a host of hardware ranging from cellphones, to laptops, to all the latest next gen consoles including Wii, Xbox 360 etc.
You may be asking yourself, well I got Tversity, why would I be interested in Orb?
Well here's a few reasons why.
1. You download it, install it like any other app. But unlike Tversity, there isn't a huge install process, of grabbing this, and that to make it work.
3. Its well designed.. if you like pretty looking apps, the design of Orb was well thought out.
Here's a tidbit from the 360 guide to show just how easy it is to install, and get running.
1. Download Orb onto your Windows home PC and follow the instructions for installing and setting up your account.
2. Check to be sure that your Xbox 360 has the Fall 2006 update.
3. Connect your Xbox 360 to your TV.
4. Go to the ‘Media’ Tab in Xbox 360.
5. Select ‘Music’, ‘Pictures’, or ‘Video’.
6. Select ‘Computer’ from the options menu.
7. Click ‘Yes, continue’ when asked if you have downloaded and installed media sharing software on your computer.
8. Select from the list the computer on which you just installed Orb in Step 1, above.
9. You should see all your media. The default selection is:
* For Music, the music in your MyDocuments/MyMusic and SharedDocuments/MyMusic folders
* For Pictures, the photos in your MyDocuments/MyPhotos and SharedDocuments/MyPhotos folders
* For Videos, the videos in your MyDocuments/MyVideos and SharedDocuments/MyVideos folders
* To add or change media folders, click the green Orb tray icon on your computer, then “Configuration”, and select the “Media” tab to add your new folders.
Now if that isn't what I call an easy, and effortless install what is?
I have tested this out, and it is that easy to get running, I have a headless server, that has all my music, pictures, movies, and shows. I was playing with all these media types in under 10 minutes on my Xbox 360. That in itself should sell the idea of Orb. Furthermore all it takes to enjoy Orb, is to create an account, (which cost nothing) and enjoy. No codec's to mess with, no tutorials to follow, just a standard app installation.
Cpasjuste has found a way to load Ubuntu on the 360. Not only does he have video proof, (which always starts up the debate, if its fake or not) but also a tutorial on how you too can load up Ubuntu on the 360. You can even install it on the 360 hdd, but it is unknown that once you format it for Linux, if it can be formated back. So take caution with that.
I think it is very interesting, and will be keeping you guys updated. If you think about it, a 300 dollar computer is very attractive. I have personal experience with Ubuntu, and it is very user friendly. It has everything needed from install, the rest is optional. It also has a large fan base, and has active support.
Square Enix will be unveiling a new title at their party, that will be taking place May 12th - 13th. Could it be Final Fantasy VII for the Ps3, or the newest patent added to their collection Final Fantasy Haerasis XIII for the Ps3?
Theres even speculation that it might be a Xbox 360 counterpart. With the talks of exclusivity, and the fact that the white engine is built for multi-platforms give this speculation a possible foothold. Reasoning behind the speculation is based primarily on a translated add that reads the following,
"The evolution will never stop, the series continues [... ] and the Final Fantasy that nobody knows will enter in scene."
Mind you this is all speculation, but well worth keeping up with. Stay tuned.
Major Nelson has given us an update as to what really happened. It seems that someone coaxed some information out of Microsoft's support personnel. The terms for it used by Major Nelson are, Social Engineering, and pre-texting. Its a form of having some information on a given account, and then convincing the support staff member, of their legitimacy. So live wasn't hacked, just a few support staff members not doing their job's right.
Here's some more info i found on some of the guys believed to be involved in trying to steal accounts
As posted on the clan’s (now inactive) website: "How do we get your information? Its easy...you call [and] pretend to be that person make up a story about how your little brother put in the information on the account and it was all fake, blah blah blah you might get one little piece of information per call but then you keep calling and keep calling everytime getting a little more information. once you have enough information you can get the password on the windows live ID Reset. they may tell you they cant but its bull s***. people at Bungie CAN and WILL reset your password."
The website also boasted that the clan “steals at least 10 accounts a day,” threatening, “If you talk s*** we will mod on your account until it is banned.
One case involved computer security expert Kevin Finisterre, whose girlfriend’s Live account was taken over after he received threats from other players during a Halo 2 session under her Gamertag. The online thugs reportedly didn’t appreciate Finisterre calling them out on their obvious in-game hacks.
A frustrated Finisterre called Xbox Live support, which essentially said that it had no power to correct the situation. Finisterre recorded the conversation: http://www.digitalmunition.com/xbox-live-remix.m4a.
