Confirmed! 50 player online for Frontlines on the 360Published by gamexxover on Thursday, February 28, 2008 Tagged: Gaming, Xbox 360, Are you guys ready for an openworld FPS with 50 online players?
The photo above shows how many players would be in the map at once (plus 1 taking the photo). Half of those guys will be real live players coming to take your bases.
50 is not promised for every map, only the largest, and only one map on launch called "the village". But thats still quite an achievement.
The Xbox 360 version will launch with 90 dedicated multiplayer servers across Europe and North America, with one map, Village, offering support for the full 50 players. As more dedicated servers are brought online, additional maps will be opened up for 50-player games.
Lets just hope they are not too slow on getting the additional servers and full scale maps out to us.
With so many players you may be as concerned as I am on the subject of Lag, which I experienced in nearly every room I played in on the Demo. But then again I believe these were games served on player machines. I would fire a pistol at a wall 3 foot away and the bullet travel was a full second, or longer! This would defidently make the game unplayable for me if this was something that happend even once in a while in the full version. But I have faith the dedicated servers will solve much of this.
Tom Orry stated that at times the game would slow down a bit but only if you were in an area that was very hectic such as in a small area with all hell breaking loose.
And if you think 50 is too many people running arround in a map, you have not seen the maps, they run in size from a large BF2 map up to Colossal. When I played the Oil Fields map on the demo, I remember seeing some towers in the background, I thought they were just painted graphics for the background but I headed out that way and it was actualy structure in the middle of the map!
My self, I will be waiting till the game is out for a few weeks and find out how smooth it runs from our fellow 360-hq members before I run out and grab my copy.
