As a way to recognize the teams of talented developers who have together created over 112 games for Xbox LIVE Arcade, Microsoft will announce awards for the top XBLA games of 2007 later this year, with several award categories decided by the community.
Fans of Xbox LIVE Arcade are invited to cast their votes for the first-ever Xbox LIVE Arcade Awards – 2007 by voting at http://www.xbox.com/xblaawards. Voting begins Tuesday, January 22 at 2:00 a.m. PST (10:00 GMT) and runs through Wednesday, January 30 at 11:59 p.m. PST (07:59 GMT).
The finalists in each award category were selected by a panel of consumer and video game industry journalists, and the winners will be determined by popular vote. Microsoft will announce the winners of the inaugural Xbox LIVE Arcade Awards – 2007 at the Game Developer Conference in February.
Below is the list of award categories that will be open for public voting:
Electronic Arts’ cartoon-style shooter Battlefield Heroes will be the company’s first free-to-download and play title.
Developed by EA’s Dice studio, Battlefield Heroes will lead EA’s new web-focused free-to-download and play business model, which generates revenue through advertising and micro-transactions.
“Online gaming garners a massive audience,” said Gerhard Florin, EA’s American and European executive VP of publishing.
“People want to play games in new ways, with easier access that is quick to the fun. With Battlefield Heroes, EA brings its first major franchise to North America and Europe with a new distribution model and pricing structure adapted to the evolving way that people play.”
Ben Cousins, senior producer at EA Dice added, “There’s something here for all types of players - be it our core Battlefield fans or casual gamers. With the new online model, we will continually add new content to keep the game fresh and keep players engaged, while integrating player feedback in real time. As a game developer, it is such a cool new way to make games.”
Featuring an in-built oline matchmaking system, Battlefield Heroes will be released for the PC as a free download in the summer of 2008.
The next traditional Battlefield title from EA will be Battlefield: Bad Company (pictured), which is slated for a March 2008 release on PS3 and Xbox 360.
The release of Funcom’s Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures has slipped by a further eight weeks so that the developer can offer a "more polished MMO experience".
Originally expected to launch in 2007, then in late March 2008, Funcom has now announced a fresh delay that means the game won’t see the light of day until May 20, 2008.
“Despite great feedback on vital aspects like immersion, fun factor and the exciting combat system, the management of Funcom has decided to polish the game even more. Eight weeks of development work is therefore added to stress game systems and polish the game further leading up to launch,” read a company statement explaining the new delay.
“The companies standing apart in the gaming market today are those with a relentless drive to achieve quality. Even though we regret delaying the launch, I am certain we made the right choice. I hope that our followers and fans will support our decision, and respect our commitment to quality,” added Age of Conan producer and game director Gaute Godager.
A new video has surfaced on youtube which definately looks to be a recording of the in-famous"Xbox Live Arcade - Goldeneye 007" game running on a Xbox 360 Dev Kit. Check it out for yourself.
This video looks to be real since I and many friends have checked out the video and the faces are different from the original N64 version. We also made note that there is one guy in the game which has glasses on now, and many other areas of the game area slightly different. Check out the differences between this video and the an original N64 video of the same stage. We will post more pics as we find them.
We already know that the game has officially been cancelled but after seeing this video which is probably the full game for XBLA we are very confident that they wouldnt have wasted so many resources if they were never going to release it.
The game is running at a constant 60fps (as shown in the video) and the gun detail is so much different. We have yet to confirm if its a fanboy emulating it on his pc or not but from the comments left on the site most seem to believe it's not real.
It definately real.. It's just a matter of time now!

Bionic Commando Rearmed sees a return of the intense 2D side scrolling, shooting and grappling action from the much-loved 1988 Bionic Commando on the original 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System™.
Bionic Commando Rearmed brings the amazing gameplay up to date with stunning new visuals, new weapons, online rankings, a reworked musical score and the addition of a 2-player co-op mode.
The title will also provide cross-game interoperability, as completing parts of Bionic Commando Rearmed will unlock new content and provide secret insight into characters and plot of the brand new Bionic Commando sequel coming later in 2008.
Aspyr is overseeing the final touches being put on an ambitious project for the Xbox 360, the porting of the massive real-time strategy by Gas Powered Games called Supreme Commander, which is currently targeted for a March release. TeamXbox was recently visited by representatives from Aspyr, GPG and the game’s Canadian developer, Hellbent Games, and what they showed was impressive in its scope, as well as its results.
