they should heat up pretty quick maybe 5-10mins if that feel on the heatsinks and check the light if it flashing 2 red lights then it is hot hot. Try not to get it to hot test around with it first get it to the 2 red lights shouldnt take to long then tighten down the xclamp and then let it cool for awhile 1 1/2 hours just to be safe and try it out.

When i did my x-clamp fix it took 2 mins to overheat, it depends on how hot your house/area is. My X-clamp fix only lasted for 3 weeks so it is not perminate either.

All depends on how many times u tryed to mess with it man if you put a heatgun to it so many times or do the towel trick so many times and also the unplug fan trick so many times over and over its going to do that also after you get it fixed and dont take the next steps in puting cooling mods in to help blow out the heat then yes its going to do what u said or if your board is so warped its going to do it no matter what. You can look there is still people that have had theres for over a year now doing it this way and also taking the extra steps in keeping it cooler and there still kicking. Just my Input.

I never did one towel trick or heatgun to it before i used the x-clamp fix. I also already had upgraded the fans and the thermal paste before i did the xclamp fix. Then three weeks later it started freezing again, then rrod.

I still have it but its screwed. Some of the transistors under the gpu and the cpu are missing, the rubber pads on the ram chips are gone, and the gpu is broken open sort of (i dropped it and it cracked the side of the gpu).
