Good to see your planning to convert Dkoots, M$ released a new motherboard with a 65nm cpu, meaning there is a lot less heat produced, also I haven't heard of anyone with the new motherboard and cpu getting a 3ROD so I would say it is safe to buy one of them, Here is how to find out

http://www.360-hq.com/article-2179-thread-1-0.html

Also if you leave your console in the open where it has good air ventilation that reduces the risk of the 3ROD too

any questions about 360 feel free to ask my friend

I have a elite and I have had zero problems with it. And from what I have read that seems to be with about everyone who has a elite.

Hey thanks for the info Fro. The link will help out a ton I'm sure.

Which chip do you have in your's Reb? I knew that there were three systems you could get, one being the elite. I wasn't sure which one is which though and I needed to hear from the pros and not some dumb Wal-Mart guy or Game Stop kid.

There are 3 systems

Elite - 120gb hard drive, black, DVD upscaling

Premium/Pro - 20gb hard drive, White/Gray

Arcade - No hard drive, 256mb mem card instead, 5 free arcade games

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/compare101.htm
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360halo3console/default.htm - Halo 3 Console specs

I'm pretty sure reb has the old 90nm chip inside his elite but I'm not certain, Also if you get a console thats made after August 2007 it will have an hdmi port, but i pretty sure the falcon motherboards were released in october 2007

So I should go for an "Elite" made "after Aug 2007"? If that's the case, I will start my search. You guys have been very helpful. I love the HQ. I just got my taxes back and need to make my donation.

I would go for either an Elite or Premium based on what you are going to use it for following this

http://www.360-hq.com/article-2179-thread-1-0.html

as long as it has the 175W power supply you are golden, and you can see the sticker from within the store so you don't even need to open the box Smile

What do you mean on what I'm going to use it for? What is the deiifernece between the two in performance?

I probably am not going to mod it. I'm guessing it will be just for gaming and watching movies, but maybe not the movies. I don't want to wear down the dvd drive. On second though I'll probably just use it for gaming and watch movies on my PC or dvd player.

Yes they implemented that program awhile back because of all the rrod's. But yes it is a awesome deal them extending to 3 years warranty. But it also was the right thing to do considering they threw out a bunch of crap first telling people that they were abusing the systems and stuff knowing full well what was wrong was they were making the 360's in third world countries that don't even have indoor plumbing just so they could save on manufactures cost. Hopefully you don't have to go through the mess that dbeal did. Even though he got a bunch of free stuff because of it. But I mean cmon how many controllers can you use at once anyhow? Wink

I am working on using two at once Rebel lol Very Happy

What I mean is the Premium would be for the standard user who wants to game, play xbox live, download content, watch movies, use it as a media center, or even just chat with friends. The Elite is more for the people who want all the features of the premium and to watch DVD movies in high definition and eventually use m$ soon to be released IPTV. If you're not going to need the dvd upscaler then I would go with the Premium but its completely up to you on what you're going to use it for
