Hey there guys, I actually don't own a 360 just yet, due to the fact that I am still having too much fun still tinkering w/ my xbox1. I had a thought though earlier today, I don't even know if it is possible and I was hoping someone might know if it could even be done. Well here was my thought..
Yes it might cost a pretty penny, but does anyone out there think it would be possilbe to mod the 360 w/ a disc changer? You know like a 20 disc changer? I was thinking that there would be so many benefits to this which I will discuss shortly. If you swapped out the laser in the disc changer w/ the one in the 360 so that way the games could be compatable, and perhaps added some sort of additional software could this be done?
The benefits to this would be amazing ... no swapping out games in the 360 anymore, totally legal (there wouldn't be any need to back your games up, so no possible copyright infrindgement.), you would still be able to play on xbox live . And you wouldn't have to remove any of your games ever. Upon thinking about this I was really excited to share this with all of you here, only thing I am seeing that would be a problem would be adding the cables, and some how flashing the bios possibly in order to convince the 360 that all is ok.
Any input on this crazy would be appreciated. 360's are still a little expensive for me to just go out and try this, so I think that I am going to wait for the prices to go down.
You would have to have the xbox firmware on the drive. _________________________________________________________

ok, so firmware would be needed on the drive, do you think this is even possible? I am honestly not even sure how someone could add the ide strip to the disc changer, but I'm sure somone probably does. I know some technical computer stuff as well as xbox stuff but not enough yet to understand how to add the ide stripping not to mention other software setups for this project.
What do you think? Too risky right now due to the price of 360's or would this actually be more simple than expected? If it could be possibly easier I might consider getting one and giving it a shot.
I personally like this idea...like you said though the problem would lie in trying to make the 360 think its ok and somehow connecting the changer to the console. would be pretty cool if someone could pull it off. _________________________________________________________

right on man, I think I will give it a try down the road when the system is a little cheaper. I am still looking online right now trying to find a disc changer that might coordinate w/ the 360. So far sony vaio has one that can be connected to a microsoft computer, but the details list that they use something called an IEEE firewire interface, which I don't exactly know what that means. I am going to investigate a little more.
yea no prob.. the 360 doesnt have firewire so i dont think that will work very well unless you could find/make an adapter for it to possibly read through the usb ports on it... I think i read somewhere here that the usb ports are locked to read only if someone could somehow combine that with the disc changer it might work out? _________________________________________________________

Amen, but hey I was just thinking, if I simply put the disc drive in the disc changer, and put all the games in the carosel, shouldn't the 360 still read the games fine if all that I am changing is where the drive is kept? Instead of the disk drive being in the 360 have it be in the disk changer. I don't know if this makes sense but, it seems to me that it would be like adding a second disk driver to the system.
Do you know of a good website that I can look at the schematics on a 360? This might really help alot. If I can do this, this would be an awesome mod to the 360.
I know exactly what you are sayin, i believe it could be done, im not sure of the internals of a disc changer would let you possibly if you swapped out the laser and board to the 360's drive... altho you will have a big thing on or next to the 360...you would also have to get a long sata cable and the other cable thats on the back of the drive. _________________________________________________________
