Hey guys im somewhat new to the 360 forums, ive just ventured over from the xbox hq side of the site.

if you read this link it will explain my situation. im chasing some help in chipping my 360 slim or custom firmware or just something to make it possible so i can play games off the hard drive and same with music videos, movies etc.. a helpful push in the right direction would be good as im finding it hard to work out which way to go.

Hi pokinko, welcome to the 360-HQ.
Sounds like you'd be look for our tutorial area: http://www.360-hq.com/xbox-tutorials.html - Our tutorials should give you an idea of what your up against. I wouldn't suggest flashing your firmware anyway, not anymore. Look into a xkey modchip, it allows you to play your games from USB hdd.

so in the car it went and its been good, there is no feedback with audio or video with voltage change. but now my first hurdle that i havnt managed to come across and thought i would ask. im wanting to store my music videos and movies onto the 360. is there any custom firmware or xbmc for the 360? any sort of ideas, i dont want to use discs if i dont have to.

The xkey can play iso movies from any attached USB device.. If you want to install a media player onto your xbox 360 you will need to JTAG or RGH the console (this is totally different) to just flashing the firmware and playing backups, it allows you to access all homebrew dashbaords, emulators and evrything.

anyway, I hope this info helps you get started

Very Happy
glad you found this area, the 360 experts here will help you to the best of their abilities! (i'm no expert, just use what's provided to me and pass it on if i have 100% success with it) Cool
........................
@ forahobby. i keep seeing the x3key (FPGA emulator board) mentioned virtually everywhere i go....
as far as i'm aware, it's the same type of device as the WODE JUKEBOX for the wii! that was easy to outfit but i already flashed my wii before i outfitted the wode...a mistake i'll ALWAYS regret! (wode wasn't conceived at the time i got my wii and nand flashed it) just wanted the console to play 1/1 dumps without using the crap known as "optical medias"...
i'll be looking into an x3key on a virgin 360 so i can do a wii/WODE special on it! (at least RGH/JTAG need NOT apply for actual game uses)
same for my spare BC ps3 that's stuck on OFW 3.61 thanks to a c*nt who didn't realise what he had! (f*cking FADDIST) the s3key is a must!
all i require from the machines with an FPGA emulator card attached is playback of 1/1 rom dumps, the homebrew can get to f*ck, not interested in it as it's ALWAYS troublesome to setup/use! (not if it's an xbox original or ps2, never had homebrew issues there!
in any case, thanks for the nudge, x3/s3key is on the cards! Very Happy Cool

It's really easy I was able to do it of all people. All you do is drag and drop your dummy.bin or firmware.bin, no additional programming needed.

^^ is the above a response to 360 dvd rom flashing? (i can't tell with just that!)
if so, i'm confident i could do it if i'm going precisely by the instructions!
it's the "homebrew" bullshit i can't be arsed with...the wii and ps3 give me headache for trying with "homebrew" but not the xbox or the ps2....
shit dare i say it, the dreamcast was a lot more forgiving using homebrew and my luck with optical medium is piss-poor at best!
still want ALL my gear running FPGA emulator boards where possible!
(i know the dvd rom key from the 360 drive must be retrieved and added to x3key before it can be used properly, i DON'T envisage any failures on my part there) Wink

There is no homebrew involved with xk3y from what I know it can just run DVDs, xbox 1 isos and xbox 360 games.

Wink
got it!
i didn't think they would/NEED to be given that it's an image loader...(optical drive spoof)
thanks for adding it in stone...the drive flash bit is bagged and tagged!
when i added the WODE to the wii, i had to flash the wode itself to enable gcm/iso/wbfs rom playback, OZMODCHIPS sold it at factory defauls and for "legal" reasons, the item wasn't allowed to just play rom files right out the box..the update/flash for wode was pretty much how you described above except the "bin" files went at the root of an SD card and you powered up the wii and the wode handles itself till the update/flash is completed! doesn't even touch the wii os in ANY way or require a computer for a flash...totally self contained! (i was listening to some tunes in "wiibrowser" as i was flashing the wode)
if after the initial setup of an s3/x3key is all the same, i'm laughing all the way to snapping my optical medias in two! Laughing Twisted Evil

It basically a drive emulator, it mount iso files, making the xbox believe it's reading a physical disc on the dvd drive
