You might like to keep an eye on this list as all game will not work as of yet. Also, you have to have the HDD for backwards compatiblility.

I have several xbox game back-ups. Will they work in the 360 game system without modchip or softmod?

You could possibly flash the firmware but you'll have to make new backups from your originals in order for them to play as you need an item burned onto the dual layer disk called the Security Sector. It's a bit of work to do I'd not worry with it and just use your original xbox. _________________________________________________________
