Ok, I will have my 360 in a couple of weeks and I have never used live before if I wanted to do online gaming I just played PC games. I've reserved my gamer id card with Xbox live so now I have some questions

What are some of the particulars that would help a newbie to live,,like

1 I have a router modem and a couple of switchers do I just plug into one or do I have to set the modem up to forward certain ports or will the 360 take care of that like XP does?

2 are there any tricks that are legal to do but are not that obvious to newcomers like customizing your gamer tag with pics and stuff? It looked like you only had so many choices for pics but that was it, and I see you guys that have some that were not there.

3 Any cool questions I should ask but haven't?

I know these might be extremely dumb questions but I am a newbie to the whole online console gaming stuff and I rarely even use stuff like MSN messenger or mIRC so most of the online community stuff is just something I never got into, other than message board.

A link to a faq with these kinds of questions would be fine but just ones that pertain to 360 stuff.

Thanks

I would try to plug the 360 into the router, as that would mean less to trouble shoot incase something doesn't go right. Most routers that use UPNP should work automatically, most of them don't even block the live ports by default so you should be fine. If it does, you can just forward them to the IP that your 360 will be on. It's not hard at all.

Several games will unlock certain gamer pics, and a lot of them you buy at the market place with microsoft points. Some are even included with special edition disks such as the PDZ one.

As long as you have reserved your gamertag, you are pretty much ready to go, welcome to xbox 360 live Very Happy.

Put your gamertag in the profile section, this way your gamercard shows like everyone elses in the forum.

I have to plug it into the switch as my modem is my router and it only has one port. but it is UPNP and the switcher just ads more ports for it to assign IPs to. You you did answer my question though because if 360 is UPNP then I should have no worries as 360 should forward what ever ports it needs.

Thanks

and shortacid,,,, I will do that as soon as I get some points,,,,,, Im not going to put it up there with a big fat Goose egg though . Embarassed

Oh ok, I see I thought you meant a "real router" as in atleast 4 ports that stood between the modem and the PCs, but the switch is fine. It shouldn't cause any problems. go ahead and put your gamertag into your profile, we won't make too much fun of you for having 0 points, afterall you don't even have a 360.

OK I've got it all hooked up and working, now I have one question where do you put your information on the gamer tag to be shown on this site.

I've went to profile and all I see is white boxes with no text to tell you which box is what. Am I looking in the wrong place?

edit: Never mind Very Happy

but I still have the problem with the profile page not showing text, I think it is how the final theme works on my PC
