Ok I got a 360 with a drive that wont read games (Hitachi). I ordered a new laser and desoldered the thing on the side and I am still having the same problem. The laser eye moves up and down but the laser itself doesnt come on. The same thing was happening with the old one. Does anyone have any suggestions? I know it isnt the laser because it works fine in my other Xbox. Does anyone know what would cause this problem?

I have a question...have you ever tried to change the drives firmware or installed a blaster360 if so then I am stuck with the same problem. The ODD may work correctly if you put it into modeb and use it on your PC. Unfortunately when I do this my drive doesnt read anything but in your case if it does try flashing it with a restore of your original firmware or try 2.2 stealth
