I hav a sammy drive and it wasent reading backups very good , so i did the rubber band trick worked great for a week and then same problem , so i tweeked the dvd pot worked good but i have to tweek the pot every time i want to play a different game , so i figured ill buy a new laser , did that and when i got it in the mail today i was a pig in shit , so i burned off the protective silver solder got the laser to work but it wont read the disks , so fine enough i put my old one in and now the laser wont move on the slides , they are well greased I put everything back in the same but it just dont move it stays in the same position so i take the new laser out and put the old back in and the same thing , the laser wont move , is there anyway of testing the screw guide motor , or could it b somthing else , any ideas would b great

Sounds like the motor might be faulty, as to testing it, Id say take the lid off of it and stick a dvd/game in it. Listen and see if the motor hums or not. Could even try and pluck the dvd out and see. I'm pretty sure that you can not have a dvd in the drive and the laser will go back and forth to check for a disc.

Seeing as how you greased the rails I doubt its a lubrication problem. Probably a burnt motor. If it is let us know, and ill search for a replacement for you.

I'll look into it, if not you might have to get a new drive.
