at the moment i have a samsung dvd drive in my xbox 360 but the disc tray doesnt open and i sometimes have disc rea errors, so i ordered a new philips xbox 360 drive it it has just arrived today. i have heard that you have to flash it or something. could someone help me out here please.

I don't know of a way to flash the Philips drive, I was thinking it is only possible on Hitachi and Samsung. You may want to consider a return because as far as I know that drive is from either a prototype 360 or from a debug unit and won't work with the current systems. Wait for another opinion to make sure but I haven't found anything that will let you flash it. _________________

Most likely get an error code of some sort meaning that the drive key doesn't match the system key. And it would just simply not work. _________________

From what ive read everyone's saying its a new drive that they found.
Personally it sounds to me like a debug drive since it was manufactured in April 2005.. Its way to old to be a new 360 drive... But hey ive been wrong before.
Ive heard all sorts of speculation about them but i cant be 100% positive unless i get one myself..
Either way i doubt you will be able to flash it etc since its a non-supported drive just now.
