Yet more questions!!!

As you can probably guess, I have about half a dozen 360's in various states of repair. A few have been easy fix's, a few are proving a tad more puzzling.

This one in particular has arrived to me, in a pre-flashed state, although I believe this has nothing to do with the error.

The console picks up games (original and backup) and you can play them up to a point. With every game, it seems that when it gets to a checkpoint (as found in COD2) or end of a race (NFS) the console freezes.

No red lights, just a garbled screen. The console re-sets fine.

No hdd or memory unit are attached and the main dash has been reset to initial setup.

My thoughts are that it may be a problem with the memory chips, as everytime the console tries to 'save' a game it freezes.

Has anyone else got any thoughts before I butcher it to find a solution.

Cheers again!

It does sound to me like the 360 itself runs fine.. It could be memory leaks or problems with the chips themselves causing it to lock up..

Just one thing.. When i does lock up do you still get a picture??
Does it have lots of lines through the picture?? If it does ive heard that is is related to the ram.

anyway, hopefully someone else here has some more input for you.
I havent had a issue with either of my 360's to date but you can bet i will one day.. So just trying to help bro.

If the screen is garbled, it definitely sounds like a video issue to me, probably in the video ram, or maybe the gpu itself. It would be hard to tell exactly what would cause it, just to make sure you can try to unplug a few of the nonessential devices, hard drives, mem cards, etc. Otherwise it seems like a hardware issue which isn't easily diagnosed, nor fixed.
