I just received a few broken 360's today, and I didn't even test them, just went ahead and opened them up. I just like to post something interesting I found in the first one I opened. I have no idea what the problems are with these units because I don't have all the cables to test them. But I completely disassembled one unit and what I found was interesting. I heard these units were prone to over heating, and it was obvious why. The thermal compound was as hard as clay. So I imagine this unit was over heating like no other. Looked more like JB Weld that didn't have enough hardener. Anyway, I just thought Id post this even though I know everyone knows about the over heating issue with these units. But I will post my results on what it took to fix these units. Also I like the challenge, and I'm bored, lol!!

Anyone think removing the Heatsink and applying some Arctic Silver heatsink grease will help with cooling and extending the life? Or waste of time?

From the first unit I pulled apart, I dont see why anyone wouldn't. I'll take pics of the next unit I take apart. I will be testing my first unit today, and I will share the results. Hope it works, then that means I have a working 360 for $70 Cool

Also I'm going to be doing a 12v mod, and addding fans to the CPU and GPU.

I guess when my Talismoon gets here I'll pull the heatsink off the cpu and gpu and apply some thermal paste as preventative maintenance then.

Well I got my first unit working today. Looks like what everyone was saying about the about the heat gun trick is true. All I did was heat up the RAM chips on the system board. I did all of them except the ones under the GPU heat sink. Plug it in, hit the button, no more red lights. Played Madden 07 and a DVD movie just fine. This unit was giving me the 0020 error code. The other unit I have is giving a 0102, so I am going to try the same thing on it to. Hope this helps you guys.
