Ok I tried this and will have to see if it works. I read the key on the dvd drive so my new card is definitly working , and i saved the key, so the key and the bin file is there when i read it.
read it with jungle flasher
so I was like what will it hurt we can change keys and what not from what i read. just breifly read over that. so i changed the sata cable to the motherboard and tried to read it from the board. but got an error said no drive was found. so since i had the new sata card working and everything was checking out, I tried to read the key off the board no sucess.
I would love to be the first one to figure this out, me being a beginner in this troubleshooting and modding would make me feel like i accomplished something no one else has being very little experience. and would write the biggest tut for everyone like myself

ok, so you said you got a backup.bin of your motherboard keys.
I would get 360 Firmware Toolbox and open the bin file, or use jungleflasher.
It should show a dvdrom key, im used to 360 firmware toolbox more.
Hopefully thats all you need now and you can now replace the drive.
You don't want to flash the the motherboard, you only want to change the key on the dvdrom drive. I hope I'm not confusing you but it sounds like your trying to write to the motherboard when all that is wrong is the dvdrom key is not correct. _________________________________________________________ HQ Network:

what i did was read the benq drive, saved the file that it gave me and the key.
I had bought a new sata card the other day, so guess i worded it wrong.
once i found out that the sata card would read the drive. and saved the key and bin file.
I then tried to read the motherboard, tried different things like when you turn the 360 on and when the dvd reads , trying to get the key off the mother board so i could match it to the dvd key or replace the dvd key that matches the the motherboard
( i edit the last message, i wrote write instead of read ,my mistake. good thing you caught that....lol)

Jf,wont work....(and if it dose thats news to me)
JTAG...will work,or Nandx.(to drop the dvd drive key)(both JTAG and Nandx) are hardwear and not softwear.When you JTAG 360,it will get banned on live..Evan when you have removed the JTAG.
So yea you can get the key off the MOBO....
But its not as simple as that.
To.. use JTAG or Nandx means soldering...and running,homebrew apps.
Then you will find the missing dvd drive key.

This is exactly the info we wanted to hear. I have not had to recover keys myself (thankgod), as it sounds like a nightmare.

Ok well it has the newer dashboard. so Jtag is out the question, unless, it can be jtaged, and just to get the dvdkey off the motherboard. nandx? i supose that has to be used when Jtaged?, I have other xboxes for going online. so if it gets band no big deal to me. just would like to have it up and running for playing games or even burned games. at least its not a total loss. not that it really is i am sure i could get my $35.00us out of it one way or another. thanks for the info.

Ok you guys are going all about this the crazy way lol.
Ok if you were able to pull the key from the old benq just spoof it to the new benq if that is what you have if so then do this with the new benq hook it up to jungleflasher hit the benq unlock button that will put it into vendor mode put your original firmware in the source then in the hacked you can put it again if you dont want it modified that will make it stay the same but i would test it with a hacked firmware. in the other area below the source, source= original key/firmware. once this is done go back to write once that is done hit the outro then hook it up to the xbox and test it if it does not work either the drive is bad the key is wrong which turns it to play dvds but not games. If it plays games then you are golden.
We have the hacked firmware i think on this site in the download section
Now if this does not work and you have the newer dash 8955 and up then you can not jtag and wont find a way to pull the key from the mobo trust me there is guys that have years and years into doing stuff like this trying to find loops no newbie has ever stumbled on a loop hole so i would not waste my time either hold onto the console tell they figure out a way to do it or sell it as parts get your money back and buy a new one as its just a waste these days to even buy used not knowing when they are going to last. Not trying to be harsh or sarcastic in anyway just what i think on it take it or leave it need help with the flashing part you can message me on yahoo: scarface_hq or skype: hq_scarface i can then teamview over and do the whole process and explain it and if it does not work then like i stated good old cheap $35.00 dvd player tell they find a loop hole in the new dashboards. _________________________________________________________ The one the only Scarface!!

thanks guys for all your help. i put it aside , i got 2 more Pos today . going back to modding my case and leave these for another day, I been pushing the envolope on sleep lately.probably up more then I sleep, thanks again :)
