Ok, got my kid a 360 off ebay used. Warranty for 30 days. Well, guess what? DVD started crunching, making rings on the games, and crashing.
I bought a NEW Toshiba/Samsung TH-943 v25 (read online somewhere that they were a good drive) off ebay (different seller). Should arrive any day.
I opened up the xbox and found that it has a TH-943 v28 inside.
Read, read, read some more. Took out the bad DVD, hooked to my computer via SATA (power still hooked to xbox). My computer has a Abit NF7-SF2 motherboard which is a NForce 2 chipset. I read that it is suitable for the flashing process.
I can't get the xbox drive to show up in the motherboard bios (Does it need too?)
I made a bootdisk with I forget which program and tried to read the flash...it can't find the drive. I got a windows program that is supposed to read the flash.... it can't find the drive.
I guess my main question is....is there a step by step guide for the TH-943 drives? I've found guides but they seem to be 'general' for a number of drives. I think I understand how to flash, get the key, reflash, but I can't read from the bad TH-943 v28.
PS I really don't want any hacked firmware or that stuff. Just looking to swap the drives (and the key)
Thanks for any help.

Swapping the drives shouldnt be a big deal..
All you need to do is get a backup of the original KEYs as they are the most important of all..
Once you have the keys you could flash another drive with the KEY ONLY and not the hacked firmware..
With HITACHI Drives you can use Firmware toolbox 3.0 or higher etc but with samsung you will need to backup the firmware using IPREP and then edit it in FIRMWARE toolbox before flashing it back with IPREP.
I know it sounds like a lenghthy process but its not once you understand what programs you need for each drive.
The only thing that needs to change is the UNQIUE DRIVE KEY which can be found after you backup your firmware and then open the firmware in MAXIMUS FIRMWARE TOOLBOX..
I am having similar problem getting pc to recognize ts-h943a ms25. Dvd power in xbox and SATA from PC. new drive so it is not recognized with in flashing process.
How do I get acess through pc to setup new drive with dvd-key.
I have flash many drives all models, yet this one hss me. any help would be appreciated, thnks.
