also- to let you guys know- sony is misleading consumers about th high-def capabilites of the blu-ray enables ps3.
The $500 version of the ps3 WILL NOT have HDMI ports- we all know this isnt a rumor-like it wouldent be blue-tooth enabled, or its 20 gig drive wouldent be upgradable- this was on the press sheet.
Basicly this cause's a prob. Blu-ray use's AACS/HDCP copy protection- this inturn down-converts movies running in 1080p High-def to 540p (Which isnt NEAR high def) thanks to the Image constraint Token.
For those of you that dont know- HDCP is not designed to prevent copying or recording of digital content but to protect the integrity of content as it is being transmitted- meaning, if the $500 version dosent have HDMI, the ICP (Image constrain token- yes thats ICP, not ICT) will down-conver the lovely hd image to 540p since it has no HDMI, it is a non-HDCP system. There is NO way sony can get around this- unless they give the $500 version HDMI- it will still play games in 1080p, but not blu-ray (and let us not forget, blu-ray is Sony's biggest selling point- which is in my opinion, them slitting there own throat)
