ive had it since november and my dvd drive has crapped out it wont read half my games and needs to be repeatly opened and closed to get nearly every game open, i dont think this sort of errors covered in the warrenty so im going to firstly try a standard cd/dvd lens cleaner and if that fails ill crack the sucker open clean it all out, i also read due to overheating it can affect the connector and sometimes just removing it and replacing it will sort it out is this true? or is there any sort of way to maybe prevent the overheat, like putting something between the two?

The 1 year warranty will cover this issue.

This is usually a laser issue. My old xenon xbox did this exact thing (it had a samsung drive in it) and a quick laser swap fixed the problem.

Agreed, I use rubbing Alcohol when ever cleaning any laser lenses, vcr heads or any other similar type of electronic part that needs to be cleaned. The alcohol will dry out quickly with no danger of moisture being left behind.

Glad you got it working again, my xbox started doing that about a month or so ago, got real bad, had to open and close over and over, power on and off over and over for half an hour before it would read my disc, now for the last 2 weeks it has not failed once, works like nothing was ever wrong, I have not cleaned or fixed anything , it just stopped screwing up. I posted that if it failed completely I would not buy a 4th! xbox to replace it. Then soon after it started working fine ...hmmmm. Maybe MS is screwing with me, hacking into my xbox and making it give false errors so I will go out and buy another, a very devious plan Mr. Gates! but then I posted publicly here ( Mr. Gates is a big fan of our site you know) I would not fall for his plan to purchase another, so Mr. Gates decided it would be more profitable to keep me as a continued Xbox Live customer than loose me for good, So he remotely disabled the laser block he activated on my console. Yes I am on to you Mr. Gates!.
