Man i totally feel dorry for ya, i already have had one replacement and now looks like another is on its way Mad, there first excuse was the disks were too brittle or the disk cases were to hard i just began to laugh down the phone i could not belive the excuses they have, there advice was to phone the disk manufactures to get free copies as you have probbaly guessed this did not happen Activision stated that i would have to pay 20 pounds for a new copy and EA said 10 pound i am definately not paying that money for a game which i did not break it is a god damn machine error, dont get me wrong i totally love my 360, sooner or later all theses problems will be fixed as hobbs said it appears that only me and you have this problem in these forums others problems are caused by moving the games console while in play EG. circular Scratching.

Sorry to hear you had such bad luck. It must be just a certain amount of people or just the first run systems.

I got mine in March and I play 5 and six hours straight on the nights I'm off (if not more) and I havn't had one problem so far with scratched discs or over-heating,, hell mine doesn't even get much more than warm at most. The closest thing I've had to a problem is tha my Free Quake 2 Disc got scratched in its paper envelope that was just thrown in with Quake 4 and some times it doesn't want to read on the first try.

oh and unless I rent a game, the game I'm playing stays in the 360 till Im done with it. I don't bother putting it back in its box.

the fact that either the hardware or the software is faulty wasn`t the issue.

The issue was that M$ couldn`t give a stuff. typical grab the dosh and run stratagy.

not supprising really considering they knew about the 360 scratching discs when you move it from hoz to vert or vice versa ( how couldn`t they! ) yet rather than let people know there was a problem with the machine they allowed people to find out themselves when they ruin at least one disc.

Reminds me when I bought a jap dreamcast when they first came out, the joypads would fail after less than a weeks play & I got very Pi$$ed off very quick at having spent so much money and couldn`t play my machine for the most part of owning it.

F1Jck it! If I start to miss the 360 ( Unlikely ) I`ll just look at a picture of it. It`ll be the same as what I had ( something to look at )

Well in the manual it tells you not to move it from the horizontal to vertical position while the system is on, atleast it does in my manual and my 360 is a launch console. I noticed that they even started putting stickers warning people on the dvd tray itself after this became such a problem. So it's not like they knew and didn't say anything, they wrote it in the manual.

Microsoft does in fact say the following in the Volume 1: Setup manual that ships with the Xbox 360:

"IMPORTANT
To avoid jamming the DVD drive and damaging discs or the Xbox 360 console:
# Remove discs before moving the console or tilting it between the horizontal and vertical positions.

# Never use cracked discs. They can shatter inside the console and jam or break internal parts.

# When the console is vertical do not use discs that are smaller the standard DVDs and CDs."

I'm not saying that you moving the console is what caused the disks to break, just saying that they did warn against moving it. I'm not taking their sides as a measurable amount of people have complained about the same situation that you mentioned here, so it's got to be bigger than a single person having issues.

You said you smashed it up and threw it in the bin? Surely you could have gotten more money through ebay or something.

Its interesting that my most used PS2 game disc Socom 2 i noticed the centre 'recently' is starting to chip away in the centre badly, now another game is doing the same and whats happening is the slimline version has these sharp prongs that sorta vice the disc, now imagine taking a disc out repeatively Crying or Very sad

im not sure what the 360 has to hold the discs down but im worried that the evil prongs are used again.

P.S Im an avid gamer so don't be disappointed that i use every system Very Happy Wink

Lol I didn`t know there was a market for smashed up 360`s.

Ughhh!!! Manual!!!

How many people would read the manual at all let alone before they sit & play on the machine the`ve been waiting to play on for what would feel like forever.

by the time you`ve read a million & 1 interviews & reviews about the 360
before launch, you already know everything about it except for 1 little detail,

What if i can`t read??

well i know i can but I also know a few people my age who can`t.

at the end of the day the hoz / vert thing is a fault

M$ should have made it either 1 way or the other if they couldn`t make it work properly. but I can`t think of 1 American product that isn`t poorly built.

No offence to any tin tanks, but usa
don`t build things to last. only to perform. ( & perform they do, for a short while normally lol )
