This is my planned setup thus far. It is pricey and dont plan on having all the components for final build till the end of the year, Will pick up a piece at a time starting in a couple months. If everything works out hopefully I can be using the finished PC by Christmas, though the fancy monitor and other peripherals will have to wait till a while after that. This is just the core system I hope to put together by then.
CASE Thermaltake Element S ATX Black Mid-Tower
MOBO Asus Rampage II Extreme
CPU Intel Core™ i7-965 Extreme
Its a monster, and due to price will be my last purchase if I can budget for it, if not I will have to go with the i7-920 and over clock it which would run just fine, but hell, I realy want the 965.
RAM OCZ Platinum Tri Channel, 2gb 1600mhz
Plan on installing 6 of these for a total of 12GB ram, The Chip is rated at like 1333mhz for ram but is said to run the 1600 with ease, so so far think I will stick with that unless further research compels me to try using the 1800 or going below 1600mhz. Also not sure if I will pick up a Raid Controler card or not, will have to do more research, the drives will be able to dump alot of data very quickly, not sure if I will need a control card to help keep everything smooth (open to suggestions on this)
HARD DRIVES Intel X25-m Mainstream C5 160gb 2.5" Ssd
Plan on using 2 of these drives in Raid-0. Some guys like to add a very large 3rd drive for storage of stuff like music, video etc. but I honestly dont think I will get close to ever using the 320GB of space these drives provide, Also these drives are very fast and silent as there are no moving parts, They are like big Super flash drives.
The video below talks about the 80gig drives but they have the 160's out now.
GRAPHICS CARDS EVGA GeForce 285
These will be my next to last purchase, as the graphics card tech changes so fast, but so far they are at the top of the list, I plan on using 2 of these in my gaming rig.
OPTICAL DRIVE Plextor PX-B310SA
A nice DVD burner / Blue ray player, but this is also a component up in the air right now, not sure just what I will go with.
The rest of the components I have not decided on as of yet, such as power supply and What water cooling system to go with, monitor, keyboard, mouse etc will be purchased later on, not worried about all that.
Operating system... Ither Vista Home Premium 64-bit or Windows 7, this will require more research and time, Waiting to see how Windows7 turns out to be as far as gaming.
Thats the meat and potatos, Now to start working some overtime and saving up. I got my 360 to keep me company till then.
Got the basic PC setup idea from a machine Extreme tech put together, worked great for them and all components are compatable, but will change some of the other stuff.

dude, you really know how to make someone jealous don't you..
I could only dream up a rig like that..
I'd love to see how it turns out.. Have you decided on that case for sure?? Those new hdd's look nice.. i love everything you have chosen, and couldn't have done it better myself?
You know they have the GTX 295 cards out now that are a bit faster and put out a lot less heat?
Asus boards can sometimes be troublesome so I personally try to avoid using their boards.
12 gb of ram!? How are you ever going to come close to using all of that?!
Looks like a good rig though man. I'm also going to be building a new computer for this holiday season but it's going to be on about a $900 budget. _________________________________________________________

Thanks, I will take a look at the those 295's. Thats why I will be getting them next to last, every time you turn around there is a new better card.
Also I know its expensive but I see it as a long term project getting a little at a time and also don't plan on upgrading or making another for at least a few years, so it has to be good enough to run anything that comes out for the next few years. Plus I will need something that can actually run crisis 2 lol.

Keep saving.. $$$
The case is not 100% but I like it so far, will be doing some more looking around.

Hey Darth, I was checking out the 295's you mentioned, looking at benchmarks and comparisons between the 295's and 285's, I have to say it is impressive, I will have to see what the price point is when the time comes but those are looking good.
I have seen a benchmark of a guy using 2 295's in sli, on the crysis benchmark test, everything set to maximum settings, full resolution! (no one does full res test on crysis) and 16x AA. he got 49fps. which is great considering the 285's in full settings but at 1920x1080 and no AA got 49fps. Very nice cards indeed.
Hopefully the GTX 295 will be $200-$300 by time you build your PC. _________________________________________________________

Yeah, I should have waited to the GTX 295 because I purchased a 4870 X2 4 months ago.. There is no way in hell to keep up with video cards, that is why I usually purchase mid range cards for this same reason.. I can pretty much fly through every game with max settings with this card, the only game I can't max out on my pc is GTA IV but then again who can play GTA IV with max settings?? The PC version of this game is a bad console port. _________________________________________________________ Xbox V1.3
