Hello Fellow Xbox HQ'er's,
I'm an active member from the Xbox1 forums and have ventured into the 360 arena for some info. I am getting ready to purchase a 360, but could use some help with the version(s) best suited for me.
It is a little confusing reading on the 360 models and motherboards, I am hoping some of the more experienced can help me.
As with my Xbox1, I've have done some decent mods installing X3, adding a larger HD, and some case/controller mods. Of course, I have XBMC loaded and configured to my liking. I am pretty into the modification aspect, where I like to create my own custom box.
Similarly, I am looking to do the same for a new 360. Now I have tried researching forums and found some info, but would like some additional help.
From what I have been able to gleen, is to NOT get a ARCADE, because there is no HDMI capability and also no hard drive. I've also found that a Jasper is better than a Falcon, but not sure why.
In any event, if there is already a post which covers my thoughts, please link me. Otherwise, I'd appreciate your advice.
Thanks! _________________________________________________________ With knowledge, comes great power.

Hi JSP62,
Welcome over to the 360 forums on HQ!
Glad to see ya make the jump..
Ok, when it comes to xbox 360's the main thing you want to know about the hardware are the many changes.. In the first initial launch consoles there were tonnes of overheating problems (known as RROD).
So, with that out of the way you basically want to get one of the most recently released xbox 360's like a FALCON or JASPER where these types of problems are hopefully fixed for good.. I'm positive the JASPER is the one you want to find.. It will run cooler and use less power overall i believe and therefore last longer then the inital units. It also support HDMI out of the box unlike the older models.
Only time will tell though i guess.. We have members running all types of 360's and I still only have 1st gen xbox 360 myself since Australia is a fair way behind in most things..
Different types of Xbox 360 Packages:
Arcade (No harddrive MEM UNIT)
Pro (20gb Harddrive or new 60gb)
Elite (120gb Hardrive)
If you ask me i would try to purchase a Arcade unit then buy a 120gb HDD for it.. lol..But thats just me.. I want to play all my games from the hdd and have hardly any space myself.
Im sure you will choose the best console for you budget!
What about Modding?
Well, there ain't alot you can do here apart from a firmware upgrade on your dvdrom drive so you can play your own BACKUP games.. BUT BE WARNED, many people get banned and we do not support piracy on HQ.
Can't wait for homebrew if it ever arrives for 360..
The only other modding you could do is case modding. Ive done lots myself including case mods, light mods, dvdrom mods (see through), etc etc..
anyway, I think ive rambled enough.. Get involved in the forums and don't forget to check out our active topics page which will show the most recent forum discussions.

THANKS EVERYONE! I knew I could count on my fellow Xboxers for the 411.
Okay, so I should indicate cash is really tight on my end (you know with this great economy). My original thoughts were to get an ARCADE and install my own HD. I do see that an SDTV cable is provided with the ARCADE. Is it as simple as just buying an HDTV cable and using it, or does the hardware on the ARCADE model not allow for this?
Again, I am all about building my own to save costs. So if I can get an ARCADE and work to make it into an ELITE, that would be grand. Is this possible? _________________________________________________________ With knowledge, comes great power.

UPDATE: Actually, looking at the Xbox page (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/compare101.htm) for Xbox360, I do see there is an HDMI connection port.
I am little confused though, there is an A/V cable and also an HDMI port. This means it does support HD, but the cable given is not HD right? So it is as simple as buying an HD cable, yes?
Furthermore, I do notice the ARCADE does not allow to play Xbox1 games. Is this because of the DVD drive or is it because of software? Will a firmware upgrade resolve this? Additionally, would it play my backup DVD copies of Xbox1 games? _________________________________________________________ With knowledge, comes great power.

Thanks!
What about my second question though?

The only thing you will need to do to play Xbox1 games on a ARCADE Xbox is put a HDD on it.......
It has nothing to do with the DVD drive or software.... _________________________________________________________

Thanks again.
The website is misleading and it shows that the ARCADE doesn't support Xbox1 games, whereas the others do.
