So, I'm a cheap bas**rd and I've got a few spare PC hard drives which are untouched, just sitting around. I'm hoping, since from what I know of the XBOX360 is that it's hardware is ALOT like a PC, if not just a souped up version of most PCs, that there's a cheap, fairly easy way to make the XBOX360 use one of the harddrives I'm already in possession of, rather then paying 60+ dollars on one of the XBOX360 hard drives.

Possibility?

Anyone done it?

BTW, I'm Mike. Poor, 17 year old father, just trying to get his XB360 to play Morrowind for my downtime from both the daughter and college.

I'd love some help

Vagrant,

As far as I know there is no way to use a Laptop Hard drive in your 360 unless you have one already because you need some sort of key from it to go on Xbox Live(From my understanding) Your best bet is to try and find one used or on eBay.

If anyone else knows the full story please respond and help him out Smile

You can use a laptop harddrive on a 360, i use a 250GB one you just have to get a usb laptob harddrive enclosure for it and format it on your computer, The only thing you can use it for is music, movies, and pictures tho. You cant save any games to it or save any downloadable content.

I saw once on the net someone who had upgraded his hard drive to 400gb on his xbox 360, but he had used the timing attack to accomplish it, not something everyone would be able to do.

Yeah, I guess the only thing you can do with the Timing Attack is run linux off of it so far. Kinda removing the point of a hard drive to play an xbox original game on 360.

As for external hard drives, you can not store any game saves / xbox 360 files on it. Your xbox 360 will only read video files, pictures, and music from it.

It is possible! To my previous thoughts (you need some sort of key) and it turns out this key is "hddss.bin" (Hard Disk Drive Security Sector.bin) and each hard drive has a unique one. Without one the Xbox 360 will not recognize it. Also when connecting to Xbox Live it checks your hddss.bin and if someone else is on with that same key they might kick you off xbox live or probably even ban you.

So I think your only option Vagrant is to get the key from one of your friends hard drives, and download updates through your computer and burn them on disc (just don't go on xbox live so one of your consoles don't get banned) That is the only method I can think of

Here is the tool

http://360mods.net/Downloads/details/id=73.html

Here is how you would have to update your 360

well if all you need is the hddss.bin file you could just get a program like xbox explorer (i think thats what its called) and take all the files off the HDD from your 360 and put them on the new HDD im not sure about that never stepped into this side of modding just giving my thought feel free to tell me im wrong Very Happy

Just buy a used xbox 360 harddrive of ebay you can get a halo edition one for $50 and same with the regular ones for about $40-50 sometimes you can even get them cheaper go to www.craigslist.org and post a add in the electronics department with title Need Xbox 360 Harddrive and see what comes up in there i picked up a couple 120gb ones for $60 each it was a steal for sure but also time to time you can get a 20gb on there for about $40 and that way you dont have to wait so long to get yours from ebay if u order one through there cus on clist your dealing with local people. That way you dont have to go through all this stuff just to get a hd onto your 360. If i had anymore i would sell ya one but im out right now for awhile.

You can even just search through your area on craigslist and see if anyone is just selling the harddrive. Or get a good size memory card but i would go for harddrive cus you spend $20-$30 more and get 20gb instead of 256mb or 512mb or 64mb memory cards
