I dont want to mention how old I am because you guys might laugh. Lets say I have been around since the likes of THG, INC and FLT in PCGaming. I have a couple of newbie questions regarding a new XBOX360 I just bought.

1.) I notice that it is virtually impossible to backup my purchased games and re-burn them in order to keep the originals pristine. Is it absolutely necessary to MOD my XBOX to play backed up games or is there actually a utility that will let me backup and re-burn games.

2.) I do see a few published games on the usenets with a ".DVD" extension so its obviously possible to back this stuff up. What utilities do I need to re-image a ".DVD" file?

To read an xbox 360 game you would need a kreon drive or another xbox 360 drive flashed as a special "read only drive".

You can make back ups of your games if you have the above hardware, but you won't actually be able to play the back ups unless you mod your xbox with custom firmware.

So the short answer is: No, you cannot back up your xbox 360 games without modding your xbox.

So thst settles that. Next couple of stupid questions.

There are tons of MODs out there. SoftMods, MODchips etc. Do all require opening the box, and do the mods keep me off of xbox Live?

What is the fsatest simplest way to MOD without killing the Xbox?

I'm sure the softmod and mod chips you are referring to are for the old xbox.

As for modding the new xbox there is only 1 way. You have to a computer with a compatible SATA chipset. Then you must open your xbox up and find out what DVD drive you have in your xbox (if it's a new one, it will have a Lite-On). Once you know what DVD drive you have you can use a tutorial made for the specific drive and get it flashed.

Since you will most likely have a lite-on you will have to buy a connectivity kit V3 with the probe, or something similar.

For actual flashing help you need to become a VIP here:http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php?name=VIP_Signup

Last stupid question. Does that mean that I have to copy the DVD to a HDD then run it or copy it from the Xbox360 to the HDD then burn it to back it up?

What is Dvddecryptor for and what are all those .DVD files i see floating around?

DVDdecryptor is the older version of IMGburn, and it is used to burn old xbox ISO's. I don't know what the .DVD files are, maybe someone else could shed some light on this.

As for how to back up the game, no you don't put it onto the HDD first, that again is old xbox stuff. You get a kreon drive and read it directly from the disk.

Probably some old sites or some gimmick or laugh to get people thinking that way.

Ways to mod a Xbox 360 to play backup original games
1. Modchip Opinion: Not a option i would go if you dont have any soldering skills and its a hassle.

2. Flashing The Xbox 360 with Hacked F/W Opinion: This is another route to go you have to open the console up same with the modchip but you just flashing the dvd drive and there is a lot of tuts out there and on here for this.

Note: If you have a IDE Based Computer then you need a pci card to do the F/W Mod with.

3. Making Backup Copys of your Originals get a Kreon Drive.

4. Program to Rip the game and Burn it XBC Still can go on live with these but your not 100% safe from getting banned.

5. If you have a newer xbox 360 then your going to want to get a connectivity kit for the lite-on drive 1 of them the new new one dont need it.

Well hope this clears some of the stuff out for you. If you want to learn more about the F/W Moding or anything like that get more full support with signing up as a V.I.P Member. The Order might be out of order but most that stuff is self explanatory depending on your build of computer and xbox 360 drive you have and the route you want to take.
