has anyone on here done an xclamp replacement with machine bolts and washers and had it work for a long time afterwards or works still currently...im just wondering the statistics of this holding up.

I've done a few, and haven't had any calls yet that it stopped working. Did one about 4-5 months ago i presume and its still going.

Now if you still have a warranty, you'll want to go thru M$. But if not, this is a good way of trying to get it to work again.

Mine just stopped. I am not getting the 3 red lights now though. Now it is freezeing sometimes at the dashboard but usually 2-3 min into a game. I haven't seen this unit freeze before. I have repeatedly tightened the screws to no avail. What should I try next?

Try putting pressure on the ram chips.

Seems as though mine does weird stuff after fix sometimes too. In crackdown, single player only, it does the checker board screen sometimes. In gears of war while playing campain tonight i had it freeze 3 times, 2 black screens and 1 freeze, all within about an hour.

Then after my friend left i played gears online for 4 hours, and not one freeze, so dunno whats going on. As long as it works i dont care.

Also, would it make the console cooler if I took off the top RF sheilding like on the old xbox?

I waited until I got the 2 red lights, then I waited 2 mins and turned the box off and tightened, waited 45 mins to cool.

replace xclamps
unplug fans
turn on 360, should get 3rlod
wait till 3rlod turn to 2 lights
then start stop watch and wait 2 mins
turn off system
tighten bolts
let cool for 45 mins
done

this has worked 4 times for me, longest so far is 6 months.

So you say to overheat it, with the x-clamp fix bolts looser. Then tighten them? Sounds easy enough.
