Hi Milleniumgirl and welcome to HQ... :-

Why does everyone want to go through all this pain and money to fix a product that should be the responsibility of the company that puts it out?
its next gen.. All the hardware is unique and custom made.
That's why the xbox 360 still hasn't been cracked properly for homebrew yet.
Sure M$ rushed development of the 360 etc but they admitted their mistake and extended everyone's warranty for the most common red ring of death error to 3 years which i think is mighty nice of them.. lol
But really, They pushed and pushed the 360 development that much so as to beat the PS3 and it looks to have paid of quite nicely with all the game devs who used to be PLAYSTATION ONLY are now on 360.
Ive had a few scratched discs but that was only due to my own mis-use.. I have 3 other consoles and like 10 friends and no other scratching issues for us in Australia..
Have you looked into those xbox 360 disc protectors??
Hey everyone, sorry i didnt reply earlier with an update. I figured out what was wrong with my 360, X clamp replacement, thermal paste replacement and a intercooler later, all is perfect. I recommend to anyone who has a 360 with over-heating problems, freezing problems, and 3 rlod to replace the x clamps with the thermal paste. (Only if out of warranty)
My 360 runs 10 degrees cooler and i play if a lot and I haven't had any problems.
For those who did replace the x clamps and still have problems, i had to make some small adjustments to Lawdawg's guide. I used rubber washer instead of nylon, found that the nylon sat too high and the GPU heatsink didn't touch the chip. I also used Antec formula 5 instead of Arctic silver 5, im from a small town with limited options. Ive repaired two 360 with this method with 100% result.
anyone wants to know more on how I fixed my friends and my xbox 360 get a hold of me.

Glad you got it sorted out. I've done the X-Clamp replacement a few times, and I to use rubber washers instead of nylon. I had the option to buy nylon, but like the properties of rubber qutie a bit more.
Glad the site was of use, and enjoy your 360's. Also thanks for getting back to us and giving us feedback. Always nice to get.

I have to say that the scratched disk issue is mainly caused by misuse or mistakes. If you even lightly bump the 360 while running with a Disk in it, you risk maligning the laser and spindle. If this happens you get scratched disks from then on. You must realize how delicate it is. Because you can either stand the 360 up or lay it down, the disk must be inserted free floating. When closed it basically grabs the disk and holds it on like a spindle. Centrifugal force will ruin your DVD player and DVD if you move the 360 in any way. They say in your booklet not to move the 360 while running, therefore they have no obligation to replace your damaged media.
It is nearly impossible for this problem to happen on its own. Why because if the 360 is never moved while a DVD is in it, the dVD will never come in physical contact with anything inside the 360 except for the part the spins the disk and it is no where near the data since it is at the center of the cd.
I know of only one 360 that sometimes scratches disks. It is owned by my 2 young cousins. I've seen them bump their 360 a number of times. They claim they do not. The cd plastic cover things works for them. _________________________________________________________ 10% VIP Discount (Coupon Code: HQ-VIP-001 ) - Signup for web hosting at www.TweakedHosting.com/clients/aff.php?aff=004 and earn the HQ network of sites recurring income!
