Thanks for all the great suggestions! I was away on vacation this weekend(Vegas) so I haven't had a chance to try anything.

I've tried powering it on without the HDD but the same thing happens.

I've tried plugging the power brick directly into a wall outlet without a surge protector.

I've tried multiple games.

MS and suggested that I make sure the system clock had the correct date and time but I couldn't get to those settings since it would lock up before that.

What I WILL try tonight is unplugging the power brick and resting it. Hopefully, because I haven't turned it on for 4 days, it'll work.

I'll let you all know and thanks again for trying to help!! Very Happy

Best of luck, if not the x-clamp trick is what I would suggest next.

well, it didn't work.

Looks like I'm going to have to try the x-clamp trick.

Endless, I've looked over the instructions that were given and they seem pretty straightforward but I was wondering if you had any links to the finished product? I wanna see what it looks like after its done. The reason for that is it looks like one of the heat sinks isn't the same size as one of x-clamps and I can't picture how the new screws would go through the motherboard in the same holes as the x-clamp and be able to pass through the heat sink as well.

also, if there is anybody who lives in the Chicago, IL area who happens to perform this specific repair or knows of someone who does, can you please post their number or email?

Endless,

heh Oddly enough, I did the same thing you did. And I called the guy up and he actually talked me out of getting the x-clamp replaced. He said that since I'm not getting the 3Red lights yet, he suggested I tried to remove the heatsink and replace the thermal compound first and then put in an aftermarket fan or switch to the 12v power supply.

And since I had already ordered the XCM High Speed fan kit and addon fan, I'm going to try just that. I saw your tutorial and will be trying it soon enough.

I still might just try replacing the x-clamp anyways since I have to remove it to apply the new thermal compound but we'll see.

Thanks for all your help Endless!

Those X clamps flex the board making the solder more prone to bad connections. With the x clamp trip it takes all that flexing away. Pretty easy/cool fix.
