Sorry i'm chiming in so late on this subject, but i've been a little busy. Anyways, regarding the initial issue, yeah i see that Llamma fixed it for you (that was Jason Trebb to be exact, a really great guy that i know well) but when you unfortunately ended up with the 0020 error the problem is that nobody knows what that error is except for M$, which sucks, the only thing that we can hypothetasize is that it's an overheating issue, but as i said it only a guess. That's why they couldn't fix it the second time, because nobody can except M$.
Regarding the price that they charged you to do the repair, yeah i suppose it's a bit steep but at the same time there's not alot of people out there offering a QUALITY repair service (and i speak from personal experience on that), yeah there's tons of people on Ebay that offer it, but i'd personally trust NONE of them, but then again that's only me.
I'm glad that you found a new mobo with the help of our ever helpful brother Endless (Rapture and applause!!!!, lol) and hopefully it'll get you up and running soon.
As far as keeping it cool, personally i've never had any problems but then again i did the 12V fan mod as soon as i thought about it and then Talismoon came out with the Talismoon Whisper Fan series ( http://www.talismoon.com/cgi-bin/multipage/engine.pl?function=viewid&id=RKS00050&cat=XBOX360-TUNING ) which does the same job and is much easier to install than the mod that i did back in the day. I'd definitely recommend this product/Mod to anybody as an after market cooling mod solution, trust me, it works like a charm, i have one.
Anyways, i hope you get back up and running online soon bro, as gamers we all miss the ability to be able to play our Xbox 360, i should know, i just messed up my DVD Firmware, but that's another story, lol.
BTW, i think that EVERYBODY on here should be greatful that we have someone a good as Endless on our network, because not only is he a fine modding maniac, and resource of info, but he (and i'll say this clearly!!) FIGHTS FOR OUR COUNTRY AGAINST PEOPLE THAT WANT TO KILL US!!!.
