Hey everyone. I aquired a 2nd 360 recently, and I just went to check it out, and the dvd drive wouldn't open. I can hear the motor and the tray trying to open, but it's like it's getting stuck on something.
I have removed the faceplate, and used a pin to manually move the slider, then hit eject, it opens fine. Then I hit the button, the drive closes, then it won't open again.
The drive is a Benq. I've been searching google for an answer but have come up empty handed. Is there an easy way to fix this? I don't mind having to open the drive, since the system has the 3rlod at the moment and I need to replace the x-clamps anyhow.
I hope I can get this fixed, I don't mind having to manually open the drive, but I do mind having the faceplate off. Too darn ugly.lol
I should add that this isn't do to someone tinkering with it, as the case has never been opened. _________________________________________________________ Xbox 1.0

Hi chuey,
havent opened a benq myself but it sounds like the gears are set wrong.. I would disconnect the power from the drive and then manually eject the drive so you can pull it all the way out.. Then i would re-connect the power and test to see if it helps with the alignment of the drive gears.
More then likely a cog will not be aligned.
Hopefully a nice and simple to fix for you.
A few samsungs have done it for me in the past and that was the easy fix for me..

Well, I tried that, and it didn't help, but I did come to notice smoething else though.
When a game is in the drive, it ejects without a problem. It only stick shut when the drive is empty. Be nice to figure it out, but until then I'll just have to remember to always keep a disc in there.
I'm at a loss on this one, any ideas out there? _________________________________________________________ Xbox 1.0

It could be that the gears are dirty, Predtech posted this in a different topic, I will quote and link here for you

Ok guys, you are all over complicating this entire situation. There is a very simple fix for this problem and it's the same for ALL 360 drives.
Start by opening the 360 up and remove the dvd drive. Open up the dvd drive by removing the 4 screws on the underside.
Once opened up it should be fairly easy to make the dvd tray slide out by rotating the cogs that control the laser and tray mechanics.
Once you have the tray about half way out you can easilly see and reach teh rubber band that links the tray and laser mechanics.
Use a needle nose pliers to pull it out and rinse it under some cold water for a few seconds then dry with any ordinary towel.
Then get 2 Qtips, and make 1 end of each one wet (spit will do if ya want) and stick it up against the 2 separate parts using the wet end against the wheel to clean it and then just swap the Qtip around and use the dry side to dry it.
Once you have cleaned both wheels and the rubber band, simply reassemble the assembly and slide the tray back into the closed position, but kinda do it a little bit hard to make it all click back into position.
Reassemble the dvd drive and 360 and.......voila, a perfectly functioning dvd drive.
From what I gather in that thread, it's for drives that have a slipping rubber band. I'm not sure that wil help this drive as it doesn't slip, or get stuck, or anything, as long as a disc is in the drive.
When a disc is inserted, the drive performs flawlessly. I will, however follow the advice anyhow, as it can't hurt.
Thanks. _________________________________________________________ Xbox 1.0
