Someone was telling my that you can get wireless network on the 360 without using the official M$ wireless adapter and that you can use any usb wireless adapter. Seeing as how I have a couple of these around the house anyone know how to do it?

I haven't tried it. But I would say just plug it in, as long as its a standard 802.11g, I don't know how any altered 'g's might work.
Specifically the ones with MiMO or speed boosters.
But I say just try them all man, it takes a few minutes to figure out if it won't work or not. It would be handy if they are all dongles as opposed to the stand alone wifi transceivers. _________________________________________________________ XBOX v1.6

Hello,
I am in a similar situation on not wanting to pay MS $99.00usd for an adapter. I found one article that stated you could use, as noted earlier, any wireless adapter, but that they found the MS version to be of top notch quality.
The other issue I see is that the xbox360 USB port is recessed about 3/4" so w/o some kind of extension, most usb adapters dont appear to fit.
Notice the MS version actually has the adapter dangling from a ~3" wire.
Let me know what you discover and I will do the same.
I did find another post that recommended "homeplugs" which I had never heard of... basically you use your electrical circuits from room to room. More detail at: http://www.homeplugs.co.uk/acatalog/diagrams.html

I use homeplugs for my 360 and my media server, i would highly reconmend them, the only down side is they are quite expensive in comparision to a wireless network (if you allready have a wireless router).
You can also get homeplug wireless extenders, simple plug into the wall and then the wireless signal is then coming from the homeplug, so you get the benifit of a wired and wireless network. _________________________________________________________
I've used the "homeplug" technology before and it works fine, but it would be substantially more money than buying the M.S wireless adapter. There are instructions to buy off of Ebay for using any wireless USB on the 360 but I was hoping to find some info here first. Oh well, I guess I'll just break down and buy the proper hardware.
Alrightee, I just finished a better solution that the Microsoft wireless adapter. I picked up another Linksys wrt54gs router and installed the dd-wrt firmware on it, boosted the antenna strength and set it up as a wireless bridge. Now I can hook all my game systems up to it and it will wirelessly connect to my other router/internet. So only $70 CDN to hook all my consoles to the net! Sweet!

There is actually a cheaper solution. I work @ radio shack. And they have discontinued the radioshack version of the "homeplugs" they are 29.99 a piece they might ever get a little cheaper if you can find them. here is the catalog number for them check them out on radioshack's website 25-3333.
That's a good idea, only thing is I can only hook up 1 console with that, with my solution I can hook up 4.

So that wrt54gs has a built in 4 port switch, thus I can ethernet in the PS2, Dreamcast, and xbox 1, and use wireless g for the future devices. Good call!
