I WAS doing this mod on a wired controller not teh wireless one. You're right in thinking the wireless one would kill the battery too fast so it wouldn't be worth it much. The led's were 1000mcd 3mm and i was using a 47OHM resistor for the ABXY buttons. But i used a 22 OHM resistor on the X button in the center of the controller for the 4 red LED mod that i put in there.

Oh you didnt go with the surface mounted type? How did that work out. was there minimum space after the led mod?

Yes, i did the surface mounted LED's for the ring, but i also put 4 red LED's inside the button itself so it lit up bright red when turned on also. The only thing is that i don't know of any way to make the surface mount led's stay lit up.
