Most flat panels have atleast 160 degrees viewing angle, the highest possible is 180 of course, but this is really unachievable b/c of the screen bezel. CRT's are rated at 180 so long as they are flat tube, where round tubes are less, normally around the 150-160 mark, but most people are going to be within 120 degrees of the screen. On both my tv and screen on my laptop i can be at roughly 170 degrees and read things on the opposite side of the screen without problems. You are right though, crt does have a better viewing angle under the right conditions.

sjohn : so it seems u studied good enough... yes crt look the best but when it comes to size yes thats the downside besides the weight and comestic looks... but one thing that i disagree totaly is

Quote:
The phosphors in the crt's screen can just as easily burn-in and leave a residual image that will stay, however most of the time if a screen (plasma or crt) burn-in the effect is only momentary and the static image will go away after a few minutes.
the burn in image is PERMENT , crt tubes are NOT to burn in image... as they dont carry ink like plasmas and lcd does... poke a plasma/lcd and see what it takes out of the screen... plus they crap out from diffrent angles... YES THE NEWER PLASMAS/LCDS are coming very good but only because they are teaming up with crt tube tech + small space of lcd /plasma = future best tvs..... and very intensely expensive...

and the reason ur friends are jellous is because it the tv looks better based on its cometics...

the tv was atcually brand new when it come out to stores..... and i have pluged it in to hd cables and im @ 480p yes its not really hd but it teachnicly already on the hd standards.... but when u want best quality + big size then dlp is the best option to what i know of .... but i like crt tube technology....

I don't have a High def tv either but I'm glad I got my 360.

You have to look at it this way. The real big deal about HDTV is the fact that it lets you sit closer to the screen and not see the pixles and/or it lets you need less of a distance vs size ratio.

So lets say you sit 10 feet from the TV. Standard TV recomneds around a 32" TV for for the best size and picture combo at 10 feet.

While at the same 10 feet with an HDTV you can go upwards around 80"+ before you start having problems with pixel size.

But here is the trick,,,, if you have a 32" HDTV at a 10 foot viewing distance there will be no noticable difference in quality of the picture between a standard and a High Def TV. The advantage here with HDTV is that you can move closer to the set and increase the quality of the picture

It depends on how big of an HDTV you buy the bigger you get the more diffenrence you will see.

My opinion on this is, when I sit on the couch and playQuake 4 it looks great to me and I have never seen Halo look better. and the best thing is that when I get an HDTV,,,, it can only get better Very Happy

I pretty much agree. I have an HDTV, but I have 360 set in non-HD mode, as my TV's only HD inputs are tied up with my DVR. I don't want to plug my 360 into the DVR, as in tends to auto-shutoff at inopportune times.

When I've played games in HD, truthfully, I haven't noticed THAT much difference.

( No offence intended ) Anyone that says CRTs dont get burn in haven't delt with alot of CRTs, trust me I am a professional. I couldn't count how many crt tubes I've replaced with burn in. Don't believe me,,, go take a look in your local arcade when the games are turned off, or an older model atm machine with a crt tube. The trick here is static images which you shouldn't have to worry about with the 360 or any modern system for that matter that has a screen saver feature. There is no way to replace the phosporus in a tube once it has burn in either.

But back to the topic at hand If you realy want a 360 then I suggest going ahead and getting one ,about the only thing you can use HDTV for now anyway other than gaming is Sports, network TV a few interest channels and movies youve already seen a hundred times anyway. Of course if these interest you more than gaming then I would get the TV first.

Oh and hold out for a premium version if you get the core you will be sorry. and something that isn't said much the Cable that works with HDTV that comes with the premium also works with a standard TV. The one that comes with the core is Standard only
