480i is standard def, 480p is "Enhanced Definition TV" AKA EDTV, this is what most plasmas end up being that are so cheap at the local wal-mart. Then HDTV which is 720p/1080i/1080p.

yea its simple basicly that warehouse borrows your money for the time being with no catch and u can return it and get ur money back...

yea 480p is the simplest hdtv mode... then 720 is perfect as its bettwen high and low pixels and 1080 i is too much pixels depeing on what u have .. ie plasma projectors etc....

as far as 480p being ed sjohn? i don think so but let me verify that to be sure ... but its alrdy hd so its not ed tv....

for what i know is its like this : reg tvs EDTVS heres what u talking about then hdtvs... 480 720 1080 .... u get the ideal.

If you want to get technical about it, 480i is what normal tvs display thus it's calle SDTv (STANDARD Definition TV) 480p just means that instead of interlaced it's progressive scanned, this makes the picture slightly better, thus being ENHANCED Definition TV, at 575i and above you change to a higher resolution, much like your computer montior, this is what determines HIGH DEFINITION, MORE RESOLUTION.

And another thing, 1080i looks almost the same as 720p, however 1080p looks almost twice as good as 720p because of the better resolution. The interlacing on 1080i makes motion degrade some and you only get 30 frames per second shown on the tv, where with progressive scanning you get a full 60 frames per second shown on the tv. In japan they are even working on getting tvs that will show 120 or more frames per second, this would allow for much more fluid motion on the screen and movies and games would look much more lifelike.

Please don't say I'm wrong when you have to go out and do research to "let me verify that to be sure". Since you are wrong in this case it makes you seem very stupid and makes other advice that you give less credible.

Check out some TV definitions, by definition 480i is SDTV, 480p is EDTV, and 720p/1080i/1080p/575i/575p all are HDTV. As I said before the whole point in HDTV is a higher resolution than your normal or standard tvs can display. Sure you can get widescreen, that increases the horizontal resolution, but the true determining factor is the verticle resolution.

ok ur right on evertying except if i understood right....

u said that full screen is better then widescreen? on that for sure ur wrong... evertying is done originaly done in widescreen .. movies in theatrs and cinemas but in this case games ? well yes too as well since its enabled widescren on a spescif game ..means is desigened and made for widescreen

but i dont wanna start anyting wrong.. but im sure u know perfectly that widescren is the best period...

I didn't say anything about widescreen being worse than standard screen I was saying that you can have SDTV or EDTV that is widescreen, but by definition HDTV HAS to be Widescreen.

Of course widescreen is better there's more screen.
