I don't know if I'll ever want to buy a 360 personally. They scratch the disks and they red-ring so much.
No that's a thing from the past (Xenon consoles) the Jasper consoles and all Slim consoles don't have that type of problems _________________________________________________________

That's good, I'll consider buying one once the 720 comes out and the price of a 360 with ≥ 250GB hard drive does down significantly.
From my understanding you can only Jtag older 360's with the xenon mobo (1st iteration hardware). I saw a youtube explaining the difference between Jtag and RGH saying that Jtag is easier to do and cheaper, but requires an older xbox. But from what you said before the older xboxs are known to red ring and scratch disks.
Thus getting a newer 360 revision such as the elite would be better since they don't scratch disks and don't red ring? But I would have to RGH the console, which would cost a little more money and require soldering a few more wires?
If you just want to play backups, flash your DVD drive. If you want to emulate Mario Kart 64, I'd just get Project 64 for the PC or mod an original Xbox. _________________________________________________________

Oh I've modded my original xbox alright!
But explain to me why an N64 emulator for 360 isn't worth the effort?
If I Jtag or RGH then use xkey for backups or ya know... what's so bad about that?
I'm confused why two posters on here have NOT suggested using 360 emulators? Can someone fill me in on any known technical issues with them or the console for emulation?

You dont need xk3y if your console is Jtaged _________________________________________________________
Oh people of short memory, there already was a softmod for 360. It was the very first hack called the King Kong hack. The fact it was possible at release means it is still possible now, just people have overlooked it. To think M$ could actualy lock the console up is delusional. Their idea of security is to hire a crack head to guard the coke stash. Whats Win7 up to now for security updates? Like 1000. How many security updates that would supposedly block hackers on 360? Tons, and they fail everytime.

I was just looking around again. Remembered seeing something about the king kong hack. Something to do with a "hypervisor?"
Anyways here's what I would like to know.
If I buy an older 360 console, does anyone know what serial number a used disk of the king kong game should be for the hack? What could be the latest dash version that is compatible with the hack?
I remember seeing a similar warning with versions of Agent Under Fire for the original xbox.
I'm sure M$ made plenty of firmware updates through xbox live to patch the flaw in their software that made this hack possible. In addition, I'm sure they patched the newer disks of the same king kong games to prevent the exploit. So this might not be a realistic hack for me, but I have seen plenty of cheap older models of 360s on craigslist in my area.
Does this king kong hack provide me complete control of the console? That is use whatever homebrew software I wish, use freestyle dash, install ping patch to play 360 system link on kai and backups of games?
As for softmod YES its very possible. M$ has very shall we pathetic protections. I havent actualy looked into 360 softmod other than a cursory check (lke 10 mnutes) a year ago. But based on M$ track record I am confident in saying YES hackers can hack the 360. Whether its a xel attack like King Kong exploiting unsigned files, or modifyin game files to exploit the CPU timeing issue used in RGH. nce XBOX-One hits and M$ moves on its gravy time for softmods. Updates kill us. Once M$ no longer cares a 360 softmod has its greatest chance
And just for the record I dont own a 360, havent since last year. And I plan to keep my 360 homebrew contribution to my Samsung HDD hack and will NOT do any dev in regards to 360. PPC lick my nuts. XBOX-One considering the arc is a maybe for me
