I had an Atari when it first came out, we would play 1 v 1 pack man at 10 cents a game, When I won all the other kids allowance I would usually have to fight him physically to keep it. I was fist fighting and making side cash on pac man when it was new, thats what makes me a hard core gamer.
Sounds familiar dude....I fought over games in the shops n mall...
I got 42000 gamer score in 18 months and dont even go for achievements...They just turn up...I have had the odd boost session but less than ya can count on 1 hand...
I reckon a hardcore gamer is playin quality titles on hardest difficulty off and online. Also i dont count those who just sit on the same title till they know every pixel on the fucking map...then shoot ya in 3 sec's of map/game starting and continue till the end n claim they can play...
Dog shit lads..pure bog...
Hardcore is octopus on game n watch....ooo raaaahhh...

I think to be considered truly hardcore, you buy a game, and play it on the hardest difficulty first, dedicate at LEAST 2 hours a day, and don't play games for achievements and let them sit on the shelf without beating them on the hardest difficulty! there are bored-ass children in china who'd kill to play those games
I think that's why before I decide to trade a game in, I play the xxxx out of it until i've decided I've had enough.
And I dont really know how hardcore I am, but I find myself constantly switching from system to system everyday. Somedays I wanna play my 360, other days I just wanna reminise on the good old PS2/PS1/Classic Xbox/64/SNES/Genesis/NES days, and other days I just wanna boot up a quick Starcraft match or a good Diablo 2 session on the computer.

Let's say what made stop of being a hardcore player... work.
When I was younger, back at school I had lots and lots of daily freetime, now I dont, I only have the nights which have more interesting stuff to do
Still I usually spend the hole Sunday playing. _________________________________________________________

i think what makes some one a hardcore gamer is just a love for gaming, and take pride in developing your skills at a game! theres always gonna be the rediculously hardcore as hobbs says who spend hours playing in a clan on a specific map learning every perfect angle! i consider myself hardcore cos ive got all my consoles since the 8 bit nes, altho i only have a few nes snes games i got around 50 megadrive games, which i think is a quite healthy collection, with my psp doing psone, and emulators yeah im pretty damn addicited.

I can say what definately doesn't make you hardcore. Saying you'll kick someones @$$ and win with a shutout in a game you haven't even played yet (and in the end the person ends up ripping you to shreads in the said game).
Had to say that because I know someone who thinks he is "hardcore" however I still beat him everytime. He'll talk all tough with Halo and Gears and either me or my/his other friends will keep killing him, thus ending in a violent yet very humorous rage-quit _________________________________________________________
