The warranty if any is void once you open the case. Also some 360's come with little pads on the bottom memory chips and some dont. As far as your problem goes I dont have a clue about that. I had a fan go out in mine once but installing a spare fan that I had fixed the problem, so good luck. As an option you could try the 12 volt fan mod on stock fan just so you have a fan. You wont be able to do it with the whisper fans, but at least you will be able to play your 360 without problems.

The only thing about switching mobo's out is the dvd drive is directly keyed to that mobo. You would probably be better off just waiting until it red rings like the microsoft agent suggested and sucking up the 99 dollar cost or you could go look on ebay under 360 console only. Personally I would do the first choice but then I have 3 backup 360o's. Personally myself I don't really suggest putting a bunch of lights on your 360 as it can tax the motherboard and power supply substantialy. Anyhow I am sorry to hear that your 360 is going tits up. Sad

considering that it is almost 3 years old, it doesnt really sursprise me that much, but it just seems odd that it would happen with just a fan and twilight, it really isnt that much power being sucked?

i think the thing that i am pissed about the most is that i just went and bought all this shit to mod my xbox and now that somehow my plug shorted and no body knows why not even microsoft, so they tell me to play it so they can fix it and i can get another warranty. the reason i was modding my box in the first place was because it didnt have a warranty! now i just sit here and wonder do i sell my stuff or do i sit here and maybe buy another xbox or IDK AHHH X_X im sooooo pissed

Actually sometimes putting in the aftermarket fans can do more damage then just leaving the stock in. The aftermarket are usually lighted and pull more air so I would think they would pull more watts then stock fans.

Microsoft allowed to ban Xbox 360 consoles which have fan modifications

According to one source, it is perfectly fine for Microsoft to ban you if you have a fan mod on your Xbox 360. A user of '360patches' was reportedly told directly from MS reps that his fan modification on the Xbox 360 is in violation of the terms of agreement so therefore MS can legally ban users from live for that very reason. His 12v fan mod wouldn't too hard to detect as voltage metering is something which should be easily detectable though bios settings.

quote:

Quote from Microsoft Xbox Live TOS "The Service may only be accessed with an original Xbox or Xbox 360 console or by logging into your account via Xbox.com.? If you are accessing the Service via an original Xbox or Xbox 360 console, you agree that? you are using authorized software and hardware, and that your software and hardware have not been modified in any unauthorized way"

You may be thinking well why is he quoting this?? Well because Microsoft have started banning xbox 360's with modded cooling. So if you've done the 12v mod your in risk of being banned for it.... How do I know this?? Because a friend of mine just had a nice chat with Microsoft About why he was banned and they explained it was because he had non-stock/modded fans.

Yes Microsoft Seem's to be going ban bad, Merry Xmas to you to Microsoft.

what do you guys think about that. is that really true?
