The main question is WHAT does the modchip do, region-free, backups, larger hdd?

It doesn't mention anything about region free.
It also states that it is a 20-30 wire installation

guys don't get your hopes up ,
if the chip works it will only let you play raw dumps , nothing more as all the rest like homebrew ,region patch and all the nice stuff are bios related and you will need an alterd bios to have this working .
I just checked the so called mod chip website and either my pc is f'ed or they got closed down because it wouldn't load.....I guess I was right about those MICROSOFT assassins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OOOPPPSSSS!!!!! Just tried the site again and now it works. It must have been temporarily down. Looks like they slipped by M-SOFT for now. I also find it wierd that no US distributers have signed up for their distribution especially if only 4 US mod shops will be able to buy bulk orders from them. I figured that everyone would be jumping on this. Has anyone talked to Llama about this matter???????????? I think it is funny that the ICE web site says all non-believers leave now. Also soldering 20-30 wires to my motherboard sounds a little scary. I really don't care about what all the chip can do,my regular box handles all my emulators and apps but i guess the more it can do the better.
